Ohio man charged with traveling to Pensacola to engage in sexual act with
minor


PENSACOLA, Fla. - A federal grand jury in the Northern District of Florida
returned an indictment charging Douglas E. Leightey, 59, of Carey, Ohio,
with knowingly crossing a state line with the intent to engage in a sexual
act with a minor under the age of 12, following an investigation by U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Pensacola Police Department
and the North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The three-count indictment alleges that on April 22, Leightey traveled via
interstate commerce to engage in sexual activity with a minor. The
indictment also alleges that between Dec. 3, 2009, and April 22, Leightey
used a computer to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity, and that on
April 12, he attempted to transfer obscene material to a minor.

"Through partnerships like the ones we have with the Pensacola Police
Department and the U.S. attorney's office, we will continue to vigorously
investigate child exploitation cases like this one," said Sue McCormick,
special agent in charge of the ICE Office of Investigations overseeing
Pensacola.

The indictment seeks the forfeiture of any property, real or personal, used
or intended to be used to commit or to promote the commission of such
offenses.

If convicted for using a computer to entice a minor to engage in sexual
activity, Leightey faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 10 years and a
maximum of life in prison. He faces a mandatory minimum of 30 years and a
maximum of life in prison for traveling with the intent to engage in sexual
activity with a minor. He also faces a maximum of 10 years in prison for
attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor.
