It has to the Inner Mounting Flame by Mahavishnu Orchestra. John
McLaughlin and Billy Cobham are monsters on guitar and drums
respectively. Rick Laird and Jerry Goodman give great support on bass
and violin. And Jan Hammer is excellent on keyboards.
Digitaldreamdoor list Mahavishnu Orchestra as the greatest rock
ensemble ever.

Though much was made of the influence of jazz-influenced improvisation
in the Mahavishnu band, it is the rock element that predominates,
stemming directly from the electronic innovations of Jimi Hendrix. The
improvisations, particularly McLaughlin's post-Hendrix machine-gun
assaults on double-necked electric guitar and Jerry Goodman's flights
on electric violin, owe more to the freakouts that had been
circulating in progressive rock circles than to jazz, based as they
often are on ostinatos on one chord.

Don't be a bully. At least he is attempting to talk about
music besides Led Zeppelin. I give him credit for
that. He's making progress.
This does not count for anything, but I love the Jeff Lorber Fusion,
before Jeff went solo. I think the album is called "Fusion Juice"
with the song "Reflections" on it. As a solo artist, Jeff ruined
this beautiful song..in my opinion.
Jeff
Raja and the Vag Lubers?
He's nothing but a useless troll.
If you're asking for people's opinions it doesn't "HAVE TO BE"
anything. Why is that concept so hard for you to grasp?
Oh, and by the way, the correct answer is "You Can't Do That Onstage
Anymore Volume II, the Helsinki Concert" by Frank Zappa.
In my opinion.
Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny.
stop being an asshole for once.
Talking to yourself there sparky? You've got dozens of folks offering
you that very advice every day.
> stop being an asshole for once.
said the guy most accused of being an asshole in every single group he
crossposts into.
Isnt it time for you to leave again?
It's a great classic album, extremely influential and a great listen,
to be sure. "Most virtuosic" is a laughably meaningless phrase but
anyway - yeah. There are lots of other great jazz fusion albums very
loosely in this same stylistic neighborhood from this era too.

I like reading allmusic and others' reviews but I don't use them to
prove anything or argue a case, just read them for my own enjoyment
and edification. Yes Hendrix' influence sings out in McLaughlin's
lead playing.

I'm not so sure about that - the use of the word "ostinatos" seems
kind of gratuitous, but more importantly, improvisational explorations
"on one chord" had been the basis of a whole school of jazz (modal)
since before rock was around - since "Kind of Blue."
