Tom
btw it's Favre(sounds like farve) and he is a Assclown.
He may well be an assclown, but you have to respect what he has done
on the field. Of course in his personal life, Brady is an assclown as
well.
Tom
Marino is and always will be the greatest QB imo.
Brady is an excellent athlete, but he is a major league asshole.

Favre can play football for an old man. I thought his career was finished a
couple of years ago, but his performance this season has made me realize he
still has it. He'll go down as a top-5 QB of all time for sure.
I prefer college football to the NFL. If they would get rid of the
antiquated bowl system and implement a proper playoff system then it would
be perfect.
Brett can be annoying, especially because of his indecision about
retirement, but he's not in the same league as Brady as far as being an
asshole. Brady is just an arrogant douchebag. I'd much rather have a beer
with Favre than Brady.
That's why I enjoyed the beating Brady took at the hands of the Giants
defense in the Super Bowl. Strahan was all over his ass verbally and
physically and Brady buckled like the crybaby he is. I have the shirt
that says 18 and doh and I wear it proudly!
College football bores me, I much prefer the NFL. You'll never see a
playoff system in college because it would not be financially
beneficial to the universities.
I respect Favre for what he has accomplished but I don't like him at
all. IMO Montana is the greatest QB ever. He never buckled under
pressure and you could count on him for a final minute comeback to
pull out the victory. Also Montana was quite an asshole also and not
liked by many of his teammates.
I loved watching that game. Best Super Bowl finish ever.
My two favorite SB's are Giants/Patriots and Rams/Titans. Both had
great finishes and kept me on the edge of my seat.
That was another good one.
Problem is, he never could win the big game. And his records, which
when he retired most of them looked safe, have been broken. But Marino
was a damn good QB other than that.

Did you see that play from the Iowa Indiana game. The QB threw a
pass, which bounced off of 3 players helmets or pads and went around
the QB to fall into a defenders hand for an interception. It was the
oddest thing.
Tom
You pretty much have to give it to Montana. I didn't know he was an
a-hole, but he could put it aside for his interviews and public
statements. But he pulled out a lot of big game wins.
Tom
I don`t really know much ( hardly anything truth be told! ) about American
football but I was always thought this wasn`t the case. It was one of the
things I admired about the game. I thought teams had to start from scratch
or something every year with new players and that no one team had a monopoly
on the best players. Was this ever the case or have I got this information
completely wrong? I must admit my interest in football ( soccer ) in the UK
and Europe has dwindled for exactly this reason...the same 3 teams have won
the English premier league for about the last 15 years due to them just
having more money than anyone else. It gets boring and there`s no way any
other team is going to challenge them unless they get taken over by another
Russian / Asian billionaire. It annoys me when a small team from a
provincial town are being threatened with administration over a 75k debt
when Chelsea or Man Utd are offering a player 150k a week just to play for
them. Things have gone wrong.
Pretty much most players are signed to multi-year contracts. Every
year teams have contracts come up, and have to decide to resign the
player or trade, or release.
But good players can be with one team for 5-10 years. Hell, Favre
played with GB all of his career except the last couple seasons, and
his first when he didn't play, I don't believe. I think he was there
16 seasons.

Believe me, when an NBA player is paid $200,000 a game it seems out
of hand, I believe this is a problem with all pro-sports. I believe
the league minimum for the NBA is about 1 million dollars, but some
players near the end of their careers can be signed for a few weeks to
cover an injured player. Of course a guy like King James or Kobe makes
20 million a season or more. With 82 games, 20 million is about
$250,000 a game. Or if the player averages 25 points a game it's
10,000 dollars a point.

Guess the big game this weekend is the Colts and Pats.

I guess the biggest game today will be the Colts-Pats. Should be a
good game.
Tom
1. Marino
2. Elway
3. i don't care :)
I respect Marino but he was too much of a wimp when it came down to
stopping someone running at him after he threw an interception. I saw
him on a couple of occasions basically sidestep a defender after they
intercepted his pass because he was afraid of getting hit. I know that
you are going to say he is a QB and not supposed to tackle but, you
cant play a mans game and be a coward. Besides he threw the INT he
should try to stop the play he is most likely responsible for.
Even though he is an ass I would take Montana over Marino any day.
That could be true, but we just don't know. Not about how Marino
could be a 4 ring QB with SF. I don't believe you can just unplug one
player and add a different one and get the same results.

I have seen some QB's tackle the guy after an interception, but it's
rare. Even more impressive is if a punter or kicker tackles someone on
a punt/kick off return.
Tom
That's what I liked about Jim McMahon. He was just an OK QB but when
he threw an INT he went at the defender full bore head on. He was also
a good leader on the field. A couple of years after he won the SB with
Chicago he fell out of favor with Ditka and he signed with the Eagles
as a back up to Cunningham. During the year Cunningham got injured and
was out for a while and there was a lot of controversy when Cunningham
was ready to return because a lot of the players on the offense wanted
to keep JM as the starting QB cause the chemistry was good and they
won several games with him.

I have to agree about this. I seem to remember the same thing.
Although the constant Bears fans talking about that SB team is
annoying. Perhaps if the new team could make it there and win maybe
they'd talk less about that team.
Tom
i am finally going to get to the new Epica tonight. i picked up the
Echoes of Eternity, what do you think of it?
> i hear ya tom, but we aren't talking about plugging in just any player.
True. But even with that, I don't know. Dan had great receivers with
his team. They could score almost at will, I believe it was always
their defense that let them down.
> i am finally going to get to the new Epica tonight. i picked up the
> Echoes of Eternity, what do you think of it?
Echoes of Eternity isn't bad. I believe if they had a different
vocalist some in here may like the band. As it is, some will reject it
out of hand.
The Epica, I enjoy it a lot.
Tom
For those who stayed up so late to see the end of the Colts Pats
game, I just wonder why the Pats went for it on 4th down. All they had
to do is punt it, and maybe, maybe it would have been too many yards
and not enough time to get another TD. However, if they could have got
a stopper on the previous drive it may have been a moot point.
Tom
Keep going for it on 4th down. Your punter doesn't need to take the
field to get a paycheck.
Belichick had little confidence in his defense because Manning had
just lit them up in the 4th quarter and he figured that Brady and the
offense could get him that yard and a half for the first down then let
the clock wind down. It was a gamble, he took it and he lost that's
all. Manning is known for tearing up defenses in the last 2 minutes of
play so he didn't want to take the chance. I would have punted and let
the defense try and win it. One thing I will say is that I have
watched Belichick answer questions about it and his attitude is that
he thought it was the way to go and he would still do the same thing.
He told the reporters its time to turn the page and move on to the
next game. I cant stand Belichick but I admire his "it happened, lets
move on" attitude towards the whole thing. I sometimes wonder what the
tapes made by Belichick, confiscated by the league showed that the
commissioner decided to destroy them almost immediately and then
release a statement saying they showed nothing. I think they showed
something wrong and rather have a big black eye for the league and its
glory team he decided to kill all evidence and keep it quiet. If the
tapes did show wrongdoing there might have been a situation where he
might have had to strip the Pats of their SB's and declare no winner
for those years. It would have been fun to see Belichick, Kraft and
the leagues glory boy Brady squirm. Especially Brady, he's too
arrogant and full of himself. I enjoyed watching the Giants tear Brady
apart and make him eat dirt during the Giants SB win.
Miami's D was very bad in the 80's, a perfect example was, a game vs.
the Jets that he threw 6 TD's in but they lost. SF never had a Elite D
with JM, but always a solid one.
Steve Young filled JM shoes(he is a all time great), but journeyman QB's
like Steve Bono and Elvis Grbac looked ok in SF. the system that Bill
Walsh installed, combined with the greatest WR of all time made
JM(probably more) as much as he made them.
Belicheck's defense probably isn't happy and ready to move on. It
was the wrong call, and I did like seeing them not make the first
down.
Tom
Keep going for it on 4th down. There's no need for punters in the NFL.
> tom you are partly correct. you are thinking of Duper and Clayton, but
> neither is going to the HoF. after those two left, Marino had some good
> WR's but no greats. he also never had a very good RB(Montana had Roger

Perhaps they won't go to the HoF, but surely they're considered all
time Dolphin greats.
> Miami's D was very bad in the 80's, a perfect example was, a game vs.

You throw 6 TD's and lose really does make a statement about you
defense. Maybe if the defense hadn't taken the field the score would
have been closer. :)

It surely helped. I still say though, performing in SB's, and in the
playoff's. 4th quarter comebacks and so on. He's one of the best.
Tom
> that game i spoke of, i believe it was 45-42 in OT.
That's a rough way to lose. However didn't they lose in the playoffs
one year like 62-7.
Tom
Miami won last night, and Ricky Williams had three TD's he is still
$$$$.
I used to be a big Cowboys fan back in the 70's and 80's. When the
team seemed to fill up with bad characters after their last run with
Troy and Emmett I sort of let that lapse.
I guess I could say I am a fan of the Colts now. (as local a team as
we have.)
