tom did you know Epica has a new cd coming out?
that makes Hypocrisy, Slayer, Epica, Nile(i think) coming out next week,
glad i have a few nickels laying around. i need to grab the new
Belphegor as well.
You may be suprised, but I have this CD.

Been sick, so no playlists today.

It sounds pretty good to me. I don't understand why you don't like
it.

I think it's a pretty impressive album. I don't know what else to
say.
Tom
Yeah. If you look at Blabbermouth every day, you couldn't miss it.

I know, they keep loading up all these albums for release on the
same day. I don't know if you ever heard Defiance, but it's also
released on that day. Personally I am not so worried about Nile or
Hypocrisy. I don't like them much.

feel like crap as well, still listening to Overkill, Artillery and

Marduk-WW
Leaves Eyes-Njord, pretty good
GD-The Toxic Touch. first time hearing this, really good.
awesome PL Soze, now you just need to mix some Slipknot in haha!!!!. i
do remember you like All Hope is Gone(the single.
I don't know if it's as good as Deadwing or In Absentia or not but I haven't
listened to it enough times yet. What are your favorite PT albums/songs?
I think you just answered your own question.
I found the Hypocrisy to be boring....maybe you should pick it up.
The new Slayer is getting a bunch of plays from me as well. I like the dry
South Of Heaven production on it.
It's so hard to pick. I like a lot of their songs/albums.

I'm just now getting into them. I wish I had heard them earlier.

I`ve liked the odd Slipknot song here and there but not enough to really
remember what the songs are called. That one song in particular is great
though.
I`m massively impressed with it.
Deadwing and Sky Moves Sideways.

it's a fairly close race, though
the Slipknot comment was a joke, i know nobody likes them besides me(in
here or AMS). just curious tom, how many SK songs have you heard to
judge their entire catalog? Iowa is a great album btw.
I`ve given Tom Slipknot songs to check out before, he seems to have a
complete mental block with them...a trendy band the kids like so he just
doesn`t want to have anything to do with them! I remember him lumping them
in with a load of commercial bands before and saying they`re a radio band or
something which is miles off base...they make a right old racket at times. I
just don`t like what they do.
Mastodon put out their best album this year, and are getting radio
play, good for them. i saw them last Sat., there was maybe 400 people
in attendance, that's all the proof that the general public are
assclowns. i was like a kid on Xmas with them doing all of CtS.
They did *all* of CtS?
Very nice.

I can say that about a lot of bands.

I can't say for sure. I never really looked for their songs.

I have not actually heard SMS, but DW is a CD I have gave at least
100 listens or more.
Tom
Love that album
> i may have heard Defiance, maybe i will look them up later.
It's old school thrash. I just listened to it. I like it a good deal
off one listen.
Tom
I would love to see them play the whole album. That would rule.
It's still there for AotY, with Amorphis and PT looking like the
competition at this moment (based on how much I feel like I have to
listen to these albums. Which has been a lot.
Tom
> Leaves Eyes-Njord, pretty good
They released a ep at the same time, and between the two I find I
like the EP more. I like the acoustic Scarbourgh Fair better than the
heavier one on the main CD. I also feel like about 3 of the songs on
the main album are just too much like some Nightwish songs in feel
than I want this band to do. I do like the song My Destiny a good
deal. What I wanted to hear is a bit more grunting vocals for contrast
on this. I will have to make it through the main album a few more
times though. I sort of feel like it's lessor than Vinland Saga,
though.

Epica-Design Your Universe
Only music I've really listened to since last week.
Tom
> Epica-Design Your Universe
This one lyric got me.
"It's not your time
You have to go back"
Tom
i have a pile of new(and some old) stuff to get to including Epica.
Truth be told, I didn't know Winger was still around as a band. I'd
thought they'd split up and the singer went solo.
You may like the Epica, it is 75 minutes long, though.
Tom
You might find this hard to believe Tom, but I've had the new Epica
for like a month now and I actually like it sometimes.
Karma will be high on my 09 list, i know i will catch shit for it :)
i have the last Epica cd, so i knew it would be long(plus the x's are
listed on the back cover), might get to it today.
I remember hating this band, but for the life of me can't remember any
of their songs. This is probably a good thing, but maybe not. What
is something they did?

I thought you sort of soured on that type stuff. (beauty and beast
vocals).
I just heard it for the first time a couple days ago. I am going to
have to reserve judgment on this for a while, I think. Maybe after I
get back to work. Hopefully next week.
Tom
> i have the last Epica cd, so i knew it would be long(plus the x's are

I usually don't pay any attention to the overall length of the
album. As it's only a problem when an album "feels" too long, or
several songs.
The previous Epica album (the Divine Conspiracy) is an album I took
to right away, and usually hear about weekly.
Tom
I assume you mean Winger. Surely you remember "she's only
seventeen". I can't remember many of their song titles off hand. I
didn't really care for them much.
Tom
I believ he means Epica
no I meant Winger. I forgot what they did. I like Epica from what
I've heard (only their recent cd)
Sorry I misunderstood. I just figured everyone knew of Winger since
they were plastered all over the place with their "She's Only
Seventeen" video.
I remember them, but couldn't remember which terrible band from the
80's they were.

I thought that for a second, but he previously posted this.
"You might find this hard to believe Tom, but I've had the new Epica

Which would say this is not about Epica
" I remember hating this band, but for the life of me can't remember
any
of their songs. This is probably a good thing, but maybe not. What

I guess I could be proved wrong. I do remember you saying a friend
gave you the previous Epica CD, did you ever find and give a listen?

I can't state again, how much I liked the previous album The Divine
Conspiracy. The new one is growing on me, but it's not been an instant
like of it, as the previous album was.

That and at least 3 or 4 other videos from those days. I can't
remember the titles as I usually ignored them. My younger brother
liked them a good deal, though.
I almost hate to admit it, but one of the concerts I saw years ago
(probably 20 now) was Cinderella/Winger/Bullet Boys. As I have said,
few rock bands ever play here, and when there's a concert, you go or
never see concerts without a long drive.
Which I am not so sure I can do so much anymore.

A lot of the songs are up on You Tube.
Tom
I have to admit that I've somewhat come around on the new AIC. I'm not
crazy about the entire album, but a few songs have really stuck with
me.
I'm really mellowing out in my old age.

Maybe I should give it another listen then. I D/L it and listened to
it twice and couldn't get into it at all.
All I remember of Winger is the dweeb kid that Beavis and Butthead used to
bully always had a Winger t-shirt on.
i do find it comical that, peeps in here like the latest Lacuna Coil,
Epica(any band of that ilk), and Kamelot but trash 80's bands.
Speaking of 80's Thrash bands, I just saw Sacrifice last night. I last saw
them 19 years ago. Still awesome.

Yep. A lot of people took that to heart. Of course a lot of bands
who hadn't got airplay, got some on that, and some sold a lot more
records than they would have otherwise.
It would be nice if some bands could get that sort of airplay
today.
Tom
Oh, what, like me? I trash some 80's bands, and looking back, I
don't like many of the ones I used to like. Perhaps, God willing in
10-15 years, I'm still around, I may dislike some of these newer bands
you mention.

have to do or something.
Tom
Ian, check the all time here.
I take exception to this...I think all 3 of those bands are shit!

that's cool you got to see a good show Bomber. i have only heard a few
songs by them. if their catalog wasn't so pricey, i would check them
out. is The ones I condemn their last cd? what do you think of it?
the last thing i wanna say on this is, Tom you seem annoyed that these
bands made $$$ and sold albums back in the day. i get some of you don't
like these bands, but spare me the " terrible " label. alot of these
bands were/are very talented, and created a ton of quality RocknRoll.
it's like Vince Neil said, we all know life sucks, so why do i wanna
sing about it, why not have fun. i laugh when people talk shit about VH
and Kiss(both who obv. inspired alot of 80's bands), two great party
time RnR bands.
Reb Beach and George Lynch are guitar Gods :)
Ya, that's their latest. I think it fits perfectly after Soldiers Of
Misfortune.
You don't have to miss the show by leaving to go to the can. How are the
adult diapers in comparison by the way?
SoM is one of the most underrated thrash records in the 80's IMO.

it's no forward to termination, but it's DAMN good
Cantrell has really taken over as lead vocalist. The new guy isn't
remotely in Staley's league.
I accept this album as a good AIC cover band, with a few really good
songs.
But who knows if it will stand the test of time. I doubt it will.
e.

amusing for now, though
I'm actually with pt on this. There's some damn good glam out there.
Sex, drugs and rock&roll lifestyle is no worse than serial killers,
nazis, pseudo-philosophy and burning churches. It's all childish and
puerile, and it's all metal.
It doesn't hurt that most of those guys could actually play their
instruments too.

I don't have a problem with that. Some of the bands, the songs

I find that this album is rising in my opinion. I also find her
vocals adorable on this and the previous album. I also like that they
have kept the growling vocals for contrast, and I like that they have
kept the speedy DM drummer from God Dethroned. That they have added
more guitar solos and such probably helps you.

Shit is a strong word. I like the fact these bands have melody in
their music, and I really enjoy many of the songs they write. Sure,
they're not blood and guts metal, but I don't need all bands to be
that. When I want B&G type music, I'll grab some Thrash, DM or some
Trad metal.
Tom
> the " peeps " know who they are Soze. i take exception to your comment
> :), i like those bands.
The peeps here is pretty much me. I am about the only one who has
stated my dislike of "hair metal" and that I think it's aged badly.
And yeah, I sort of say most of it is "radio rock" or "hard rock" and
not really metal.
You could say JP is a metal band, but you can't say Turbo is metal,
and nor PoE.
Tom
Besides Twisted Sister and WASP I don`t like hair metal at all. And I think
both of those bands are more straight up heavy metal than what it generally
perceive as hair metal anyway. The only TS album which really falls into the
hair metal category sonically is the last one.
Do I hate it? It certainly does nothing for me and used to irritate me back
in the day but nowadays I don`t get worked up about music I don`t
like...each to their own. And hell, it as such a long time ago now!
That`s what I looked at...altogether you had something like 18,000 posts to
my three thousaand odd. As I said, just from the top 10 Kev has more than me
with both email addresses combined. Not sure what this proves other than
that we have a lot of time on our hands!!

I can't comment on TS so much, only heard their big few hits for the
most part, and We're not going to Take it to me is sort of party
anthem sort of song, as is the other big hit I can't remember the
title for.
As for WASP, they did have some sort of party songs, but yeah,
otherwise Traditional type metal for the most part.
I don't hate 80's hair metal, for the record I did buy a lot of
those albums and listened a lot back then, I just think some of the
songs didn't age well, and many of the bands had to put out those
power ballads, sometimes a few on one album, that after a few albums
they had so many "hit power ballads" that they had to play that they
had less time for the harder rocking songs.
So, in final, I don't feel much need to listen to those albums very
often. As Ian said, it's a long time ago.
Tom

Pretty much. It wouldn't be long though, before something harder,
heavier and faster would come.

Well this was my point...TS do often get lumped in with that hair metal
commercial crowd but musically they didn`t suit it at all. In 1982-83 they
kicked ass as hard as anyone. Even the Stay Hungry album only had those 2
famous songs on it. The rest was pretty hard and heavy stuff.
I still love and listen toTwisted Sister!

I just didn't remember that. I believe I had heard at least one of
their albums, but it was probably 1984-85. And I just haven't heard
them since. Just the famous songs.
Tom
Have you heard Voyage 34? It's one piece of music divided into 4 movements.
It's mostly instrumental, and fucking awesome. It starts out as a rock
song, morphs into a trancy electronic song, then devolves into ambience.
Incredible.

I believe that's on the 2CD retrospective (Stars Die) I have. Yeah,

It's been an eventful year, to say the least.
