Well, it's now about 12 hours after the end of the Superchunk show last
night and my ears are still ringing....man, was it worth it tho. It all
started out with a couple of opening bands (not really worth mentioning)
and then came Butterglory. After all the great things I'd heard about
them on the net, I guess I expected more out of them than a mediocre
pseudo-Pavement imitation. The whole set was just plain boring. If I
wasn't waiting for one of the best bands on earth to take the stage next,
I certainly would have left. I'm not trying to get too down on them or
anything...I just wasn't impressed. Anyway, after that was over with I
ran straight down near the stage so I'd have a good place to see Mac and
the gang. Before too long they came out and opened with the first song
from Foolish. Not one of my favorites, but still sounded damn good live.
Some of the highlights were: Water Wings, Driveway to Driveway, Throwing
Things, and an incredible rendition of Slack Motherfucker. The entire set
was intense, I never wanted it to end. Later on I met up with my sister
(who had never heard them) and she said that she could barely stay awake!
How someone could sleep through Slack Motherfucker, I'll never understand
:). Overall, it was one of the best shows I've ever seen (apart from all
the assholes who were pushing everyone around just for the sake of pushing
everyone around...and the guy who jumped up on stage and pissed laura
off).
