Is it really about newfound fame? As a youth I thought it was just
about not fitting in with your peers. It's also my fave Eagles song.

I believe it was about Jimmy Carter, at that time the new president.

I thought it had to do with getting buzz as the new band or performer on the
scene,
then inevitably seeing someone else come along and inherit that same buzz,
etc.

It's about a new chance at "Try And Love Again."

Hello people,

Wikipedia says: "The track tells the story of fame and failure and knowing
them for the imposters that they are..."

One of my favorites too !

Probably means nothing other than putting words together to make a
wonderful song. Like the Beatles "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" has
nothing to do with LSD; it was a suggestion by Pau McCartney's
daughter to give it that name.

I believe a lot of songs were written with no single purpose; the
words and melody just seem to fit.

Listen to "Light My Fire" by the Doors; does anyone hear a message
there?? I don't...it's just good words and melody.

A man at a keyboard can steal more money than a man with a gun.
