I just received the new issue of Spin . In it there is an article about
this year's ceremony. The reporter that was there talked to Seymour
Stein who is one of the people in charge . He was quoted as saying that
Duran Duran will "certainly" be on the list of inductees when they are
eligible. Of course he was listing several bands in the actual quote ,
but at least he said it in print.

It was just nice to see it being confirmed by somebody in charge of the
Hall of Fame . We all know how stubborn the industry has been about
giving Duran the credit they so richly deserve. Now all we need is to
have the new album be a huge success. IMHO I think they should
release a new single before the record comes out . So the general public
can get interested in buying it when it finally does arrive in stores.

I know that Duran's name is already in their for songwriting. Hungry Like
The Wolf is listed as one of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock And Roll. Not
too shabby.

They haven't gotten around to putting the Monkees in yet, they are arguably
a group that changed the way we view rock groups and set the stage for MTV
and groups like DD, plus they made 11 albums full of (mostly) great pop
music. Just my 2 cents.

While i will not argue the monkees place in pop culture lets not
forget they were a tv show and were not a real band that wrote their
own songs. i just saw davy jones on the teen idols abc special and he
stated that in the interview.

Elvis and Frank Sinatra never wrote their own songs either.

And while I acknowledge that popularity is no indicator of taste (Ronan
bloody Keating a case in point!), the Monkees at one point in their career
outsold both the Beatles and the Stones *together*. They may have been the
first manufactured boy band, but unlike today's boy bands, the Monkees could
play instruments and play live without the need for backing singers while
they danced around like muppets.

Besides, Mike Nesmith invented MTV... who gave Duran their big break in the
US. For that alone we should be eternally grateful!

Oh my goodness.....lookout, you may have Nsync and Backstreet fans jump on you about this again!  Evidently not writing your songs and such is just dandy, and real talent is a bonus if you get it.
Hey, could any of the Monkees 'beatbox'?

Actually they did write some of their songs, maybe 40%. They also played
their own insturments most of the time. They were more of a band than
Backstreet Boys and N'Sync.
