The day I interviewed Ritchie Blackmore

20 years prior to this on tape. However this rendition is well and
good. So here's a "little something" I did with Ritchie over ten years
ago regarding his favorite topic as well as mine, the California Jam
and perhaps it's ensuing Wereo.

Question: How do you feel about re-entering the music world
BlackmoreR: I was not aware that I left, but
BlackmoreR: it is always interesting when you are a musician
BlackmoreR: because people think you are not
BlackmoreR: around or doing anything, since you aren't
BlackmoreR: on the TV or radio.
BlackmoreR: I am just as busy as I have always been,
BlackmoreR: so I am not re-entering anything.
Question: Ritchie Blackmore, do you think the day will come when you
join Deep
Question: Purple again? Thanks for all the great years of music.
BlackmoreR: I don't think so because we made a lot
BlackmoreR: of good music and that was in the early 70's
BlackmoreR: I would never go back in the studio
BlackmoreR: but would do a weekend
BlackmoreR: with them for nostalgic reasons.
AOLiveMC1: Oh, that would be great!
BlackmoreR: To play the good old songs with a fantastic band.

Question: having just finished the European tour, are there any
plans to bring
Question: Blackmore's Night to the States?
BlackmoreR: Yes, definitely, that is what we are working
BlackmoreR: on at this moment, we have
BlackmoreR: a lot of interest, more than we
BlackmoreR: anticipated. Looks like the East coast,
BlackmoreR: West Coast, Phoenix and Colorado..
BlackmoreR: in Sept or October.
AOLiveMC1: Is there a webpage where people can check out your tour
schedule?
BlackmoreR: Yes there is but I am going to have to ask

Question: Ritchie can you tell us a little something about
California Jam 1974
Question: where you were the 7th group to perform?
BlackmoreR: I wasn't counting at the time, all
BlackmoreR: I do remember was, we had a contract
BlackmoreR: to go on at 10 at night, so I decided to go
BlackmoreR: to see the other bands, at 7:30.
BlackmoreR: All of a sudden I was told I was on in
BlackmoreR: half an hour...about 8:00.
BlackmoreR: It took everyone offguard, there was a bit
BlackmoreR: of an arguement about when we were going on.
BlackmoreR: We were a little annoyed that we had
BlackmoreR: to go on a little early as we were not warmed up.
BlackmoreR: We did go on about an hour later, after
BlackmoreR: they wanted us to.
BlackmoreR: So that was our introduction to the California Jam.
BlackmoreR: We were not psycyologically ready to play.
BlackmoreR: I know that I wasn't.
BlackmoreR: That can happen a lot, though.
BlackmoreR: The show went well, considering.
BlackmoreR: Iam a firm believer in the audience
BlackmoreR: getting their money's worth,
BlackmoreR: so I had an argument with a cameraman
BlackmoreR: who was getting in the audience's way.
BlackmoreR: That caused a stir and then there the
BlackmoreR: fire that broke out.
BlackmoreR: I had organized it to pour petrol
BlackmoreR: on my guitar, but my roadie was new
BlackmoreR: and put too much petrol on the guitar...
BlackmoreR: so it blew up the whole stage.
BlackmoreR: It deafened one of the cameramen.
BlackmoreR: Luckily, we all escaped injury
BlackmoreR: and then I had to jump into a helicopter
BlackmoreR: to escape being locked up for arson.
AOLiveMC1: What a night!
Question: when you write lyrics, how do you try to teach the youth
or society?
BlackmoreR: I never write lyrics, I only write the music
BlackmoreR: and cord progressions.
BlackmoreR: The lyrics I leave to whoever the singer
BlackmoreR: is at the time, as with Candice Night.
