I watch alot of DVDs that I probably would NOT normally watch, due to
having 6 children,(and 1 granddaugher!) and I'm sure those of you here
with kids, know what I mean. Some are positivily 'harmful', like "Shark
Boy, and Lava Girl", man, that was awful...

Anyway, watched Robots last night/this morning, and had high hopes for
it. It looked really cool...BUT...

I was disappointed, even with the awesome talent list, great CGI, the
story was a bit boring. Anyone else see it, yet?

I'm getting ready to watch Batman Returns, and have VERY high hopes for
it. I hope this one doesn't disappoint!

Anyone here have any new DVDs that I shouldn't miss?

I thought Robots was watchable. Sharkboy is good at bedtime.

Batman is probably not for little kids. I liked it a lot but it is more
violent and slightly twisted for the little ones.

Here are some reviews:

Kingdom of Heaven - not a great movie but I liked it. Definitely
watchable and interesting. I'm not sure whether the History Channel
documentaries are better before or after the movie. They probably
explain more than they give away. Without these documentaries I would
not have understood what happened in the movie.

Primer - a good indie sci-fi movie. A bit convoluted but I'm not sure
if it wouldn't have been better had I been paying absolute attention at
the theatre. At home there are distractions.

24 (season 1 disk 1) - I don't watch this show regularly (I had seen 1
or 2 episodes) but I have seen the light. It's good.

Return of the King (extended edition) - this is the weakest of the
three. It's probably Tolkien's plot that is the problem. Peter Jackson
probably knew that his real challenge would be this movie.

Ultimate Fighting - Liddel vs. Coutoure - 8 fights total. I am really
getting into UFC.

Ok, that's it.

Peter Jackson is like Obesabeaux's more successful twin. "LOTR" movies
are like burgers served in gourmet restaurant. Soulless, mass-moving crap.

24 is not too bad. Kiefer Sutherland has his father's charisma.

I like the first two a lot. The third is good - just not as good. By
the way, Peter Jackson is pretty thin now. So he can't be called
Obesabeaux's more successful twin. Unless you were just referring to
the beard.

It takes a special breed of person to "get" the message in Kingdom Of
Heaven. If more people did perhaps we wouldnt have so many wars? When I saw
the movie there was a Muslim couple sitting in front of me and they kept
laughing during the movie. Obviously they didn't "get it."

I already suggested Interpretor and Immortal.

Hmmmmm,

They probably were laughing because the portrayal of Muslims was funny
to them. I can imagine how cartoonish we westerners are portrayed in
their media. We would probably laugh at their version of the movie.

About "special breeds" of people "getting" this movie's message:

The message of this movie is that the most effective way to portray an
anti-war philosophy is to romanticize and de-emphasize violence in war.
If you think this movie is a good anti-war movie you may want to
remember a few key points:

The protagonist kills a priest because he says something mean about his
dead wife. That's a good message - solve all problems with violence. If
someone disses you... kill him!

The protagonist's father basically comes out and says he has raped and
pillaged. So come with me kid and I'll show you how it's done! Then
when the law comes after the boy because he killed a priest in cold
blood the father goes into battle gleefully and watches several of his
own comerades (who he's apparently been with for years) die so he can
save the kid he's known for about 20 minutes. Of course countless
"evil" townspeople die trying to capture the kid who killed the priest.
Put this scenario in modern day USA and see how it plays.

The protagonist kills someone so he can keep his horse. If someone
wants to steal your stuff... kill him!

The protagonist fights several battles based on "honor" and "virtue."
While there is a subtle message of distaste towards these motivations
(killing hundreds or thousands for these motivations) the lovingly
photographed images of swords slashing through men (with few
dismemberments) says something else.

That's all in the first 15 minutes.

Let's face it. This is NOT a movie that will motivate anyone to be less
violent.

Movies that do a much better job of this (although they have their
share of violence):

Full Metal Jacket
Thin Red Line
Paths to Glory
Breaker Morant
American History X
Black Hawk Down
Platoon
Born on the Forth of July

Movies like Kingdom of Heaven that romanticize violence (on a large
scale) while preaching a non-violent message:

Private Ryan (very manipulative)
Gladiator (woe is me... I've senselessly killed countless people over
the years. Human life is trivial to me. But when I decide to, I should
get to move to my farm and not be bothered.)

The best movie to discourage war:

STARSHIP TROOPERS

That's what I think anyway!!!

Squidly, apparently you didn't "get" the most important message of the whole
film: One's Kingdom, God, Holy Land, etc...is wherever they are, not some
piece of earth somewhere people are willing to kill for thousands of years
to inhabit.

Your reply is interesting, very smugly-smart-ass (as expected) and true to
SOME extent, yet as I said, you missed the most important point. If we all
realize that we don't own this terra firma we stand on, our greatest mansion
and Kingdom is yet to come and forever lives within us, and will be where
ever we are, there wouldn't be so much blood shed over places like Iraq, the
East-West or any bank in Israel, etc... For example, how are you fairing and
those around you that were struck by the Hurricane? Are you holding on to
land, possessions that were never really yours, making it harder for you to
start over and move on? Do you long for things that were washed away and
will never return or are you thanking God you have still a breath to breathe
and hope for a better day? Are you so stuck on yourself that you feel YOUR
interpretation is so great that it must be what Kingdom Of Heaven was about,
no way it could be different?

The Muslims truly didn't get it in the theatre and likely will never.

Isabore,

Welcome to the land of the smugly-smart-ass! Or maybe you should
welcome me!

This is what I think. You are not required to agree.

Movies are a product of their creators. Most have a central meaning (or
point, as you say) that is illustrated by the scenes, dialogue, camera
angles, lighting, etc.

Ridley Scott would have you think that Kingdom of Heaven is a movie
that people are what's important on this planet, not possessions (land,
buildings, etc.) It is referred to in the dialogue of the protagonist.
But that is as far as it goes. If the message of the movie was such the
thrust of the majority of scenes wouldn't glorify and sensationalize
the violence and death.

I'm interested in seeing the new Cronenberg movie, A History of
Violence, for this reason. Supposedly it portrays extremely violent
acts AND the consequences of those acts.

As far as your bashing of my hurricane woes, I find it funny that you
pretend to have an enlightened view towards life. You, as much as
anyone on this site, are obessed with your worldly stuff (even if it's
crappy Dio stuff or whatever.) If you don't like your stuff... GET RID
OF IT!!! Give it to a poor person who wants it! That's your choice.

But don't pretend that you wouldn't be upset if the house you still owe
hundreds of thousands on, every possession you've ever worked a job to
earn, every photograph you've ever taken, was taken from you in a day.
I know countless people who have suffered that exact loss. And I would
expect someone who pretends to be friendly to have empathy towards
others' plights.

How about the concept of having more than half of your life long
friends and family instantly scattered around the country with no
realistic hope of returning? I suppose you, being a Dahli Lama type,
would happily accept this like the passing of a breeze.

I'm lucky that I came through relatively (compared to many) unscathed.
My house is livable. But the business I've been building for the last
14 years was totally destroyed (along with practically every other
business around here.) Certainly I am moving on. But that doesn't mean
I should be happy about things. You have a job, don't you? You should
quit.

Personally, I am finding that most people around here have a very
pragmatic view of the situation. The things they miss are items that
have more to do with their human relationships than simple possessions.
Take every picture of your husband, mom, dad, dog, fetus, etc. and burn
them (in keeping with your enlightened philosophy.)

I would love to see how you would operate around here. I invite you to
come down and enjoy things.

At least we could use your gargantuan ass as a barrier against future
category 4 storms!

MR. BUSH, SEND DOWN THAT ASS!!! THAT GIANT, MALFORMED, ELEPHANTINE
ASS!!!

(By the way, I've mostly refrained from bashing you in the goofy way
others do, but you really do deserve to be bashed sometimes. Please
accept my apologies for the Obesebeaux and beard comment. I was just
riffing on Nada's comment - it wasn't a personal attack. I prefer to
attack people based on their commentary rather than real world stuff.
Honestly, though, it makes no sense for you to bring up the dreadful
situation here to bolster your weak arguements about a mediocre movie.)

Squid,

Your posts are worth shit - why? You continue to pretend to be someone with
knowledge and worthy of peoples respect yet you join in on calling ME,
someone you've never met, horrible names, mainly centered on by body and
appearance. That's shallow Squid, not profound and intellectual. Disagree
with me, sure. I disagree with you and make no bones about it. You mention
fetuses, call me an elephant, I am not impressed with your inability to
verbalize in a mature fashion. This makes any attempt of yours to sound
intelligent and viable, NULL and VOID.

As for your comment on what I would do or how I would feel if my house and
worldy possessions were gone, etc...blah blah blah...I'm a tough woman,
which is why I am a target here and in the DIO fan forums. I don't allow
people to walk on me, bully me, change my mind, or play "follow me" to some
self proclaimed demi-god. I dont hold onto worldly things as you claim, in
fact I give more away than I ever receive. My DIO stuff could burn up today
and I'd not cry a single tear. My house could burn down today with all my
pictures in it, my clothes, my TVs, bed, etc... I'd not let it bother me.
Father God gave us something called a memory....which gives us something
called Memories. What makes me a survivor compared to someone like you is I
can quickly and easily adapt to change, no matter how drastic, not allowing
silly mortal emotions to get the best of me.

My husband leaves VERY frequently for "missions" and "assignments" both
military and war related. Do I sit at home crying and moaning? NO, I enjoy
life as he would want me to. If he were to be killed serving this country
even, I would thank God for the time I had with him and all he taught me
about surviving, love and life. My son if he had lived would be 1 yr old
this month, do I sit and cry over what might have been or what could've
been? NO I had my time of mourning, he is in his Kingdom of Heaven too, I do
not cry for what might have been.

Here's another tid bit to help you understand my "thinking" - not that you
care, since you make distasteful comments about me physically, about the
loss of my child, etc.. But I will humor you because I feel sorry for you.
My husband asked me what I would do if I had to defend myself from an
attacker. If I had to use deadly force to stop a gunman, rapist, intruder,
etc...could I pull thr trigger and live with myself later? YES Because I
have a keener understanding of mortality, life, afterlife, and whats really
important, I'd not hesitate to shoot someone who tried to harm me. Would I
cry and moan for the person's family? NO Survivors don't second think using
deadly force when someone is about to possibly take their life.

On the same note, to further prove Im not "attached" beyond any sensible
reason to wordly possessions, or anything I own. Saturday I had a three dog
pile up in my back yard. One of my dogs who had been abused prior to me
adopting her had "turned" in her old age. You became vicious and attacked my
other two dogs. The ONLY thing that kept me from shooting her dead to save
the other dogs and do justice as we "country" folk understand, was the fact
I live in the city, in a community full of children. I would not chance
"overshot" causing someone else harm. My remedy for the three dog pile up? A
broom and the vicious dog being put to death the next morning. No tears!!
That is how the strong survive.

As for telling me to quit my job, why? What does that have to do with the
subject at hand, nothing. We're talking about survival when the cards are
stacked against you. I enjoy my job that allows me to use my personality and
particularly "enjoyable" characteristics to make people smile daily. It
brings me joy to see how they enjoy me. If a storm were to blow my job away,
hey I'd find another one doing the same thing for the same people no doubt!
As long as Im alive there is something for me somewhere. Your point??????
You have none.

Obviously my words got you all ruffled up---FUNNY!

Just because someone like myself doesn't hold onto worldy possessions past
the ability to reason and survive upon losing those possessions doesn't mean
I don't care. If you or anyone thinks that you obviously are far beyond
help. I understand the Kingdom of Heaven is inside of me, where ever me and
my People go, house or no house, car or no car, internet or no internet. If
our fore father's and ancestors were as big of pussies as you Squid we
wouldn't be here. If we give in to catastrophe we become a catastrophe.

Furthermore, I no longer reply to people here who do nothing but troll and
want discord. if you'd like to be on my Killfile, let me know.

Love & Lady Kisses,

Isabeaux

Oh Fatty,

Why so upset???

Squid is simply siding with the right people, and not the (fat) scarlet
whore.

He's thereby securing a place in Heaven when he passes.

Remember, "We fight to kill (metaphorically speaking of COURSE) the (Fat)

You, Izzy, would be that fat dragon.

Again, we also continue to note your sick racist statements.

Devon, I mean Isabeaux...

About your body: If I recall, YOU are the one who has incessantly said
that you were secure and confident about your body and impervious to
taunts. You've been self deprecating at times and I like that. But the
milisecond I throw a little jibe (one that has been done so many times
it is a caricature of itself and couldn't possibly offend you) you
decide it's time to say that I'm "shallow", unprofound, unintellectual,
immature, unviable, NULL and VOID. Wow.

Aren't you the one who said you didn't have time for these dalliances?
Yet here you are (and have been since about 4 minutes after you said
you were leaving) with posts that seem like they belong on the official
site.

But WTF - I'll go through you message point by point. Why not? It's

I've chastised others for bringing these things up. So I'm not down
with that type of talk. But I also took offense at your decision to
belittle my situation and the situation of others. Like I said before,
the initial comments about you were riffs on Nada's comments (which you
chose to say little about.) Honestly, does it really bother you to be
called Obesebeaux? Give me a break! The fetus thing has been run into
the ground so much that you couldn't possibly be offended by the benign
way that I used it. And you always talk about your ass being big! So
get over it!!! Of all the clowns around here, I'm pretty damn tame. And
I've defended you as many times as I've defended anyone else.

That's very optimistic, Isabeaux. A wonderful, enlightened worldview.
I'm sure that most here at AMD will pray every night that you will get

That is awfully strong. Everyone reading this must be transformed by
your strength. You killed your senile dog. Amazing.

When did I say I was giving in? I'm kicking ass! But that doesn't mean

down as she wants.

Dear 'Lady,' if it was my dog I wouldv shot it too. these bleeding hart
fools would rather watch the dog be adopted out and take out an innocent
childs throat. Then stand back and cry 'inhumanity'

like lydon said, it kills these dorks to be kill-filed. they sit back
hoping you will read their shit and reply.

How is it that I'm the one who is labeled an attacker? This all began
as a discussion and review of movies. Isabeaux throws out some snide
comments about me (and anyone who didn't like the masterpiece Kingdom
of Heaven) "not getting it." Nada throws a total bitch slap (that term
seems to have more resonance now) at her but she chooses to instead go
after me and other victims of Katrina.

Don't get me wrong. I love this shit. But it's strangely funny how all
of Isabeaux's "supporters" seem to be here just to comment on how cool
she is. Am I wrong? Is she really that cool?

Easy, Squid.

worked up and pissed off when she types it.

She's not clever enough to be able to disguise her pseudonyms

.....before my time.

All kidding aside, my brother went to school with Tom Kiefer. Springfield
High School in PA.

My brother was class of '82 and Kiefer was class of '80.

Kiefer's Mom was my brother's fourth grade teacher, so he used to talk to
Tom when he'd hang around his Mom's classroom after he got out of class.

Lovecraf is the ultimate solitude reading. Some of his stories are
seriously depressing and haunting.

Now that we're trying to give the credit to the right people -- I just
want to write that the "Twinkie truck parked at the front of the house"-
comment was mine and Pippi has been wrongly accused of the "truck" part.

Let me guess, this is a bait? What do you want to know? About the food,
people, taxes, music stores...sights? Yeah, I saw your international
hand sign, but quite frankly I don't give a fuck if you'd pull your
pants down and moon at my way, if you just stay fifty meters away from
me. Seeing your shmuck face makes me want to fetch aspirin.
