I thought WAM left for Paris in March 1778 and returned in September
that year. In early 1782, he was busy in Vienna courting Constanze,
playing piano concerts and completing the "Entführung".
Having met Grimm (Friedrich Melchior) on the Mozarts' Grand Tour in
1763/64, Wolfgang met him again in Paris in 1778 at Madame d'Épinay's
place in nr. 5, rue de la Chaussée-d'Antin; both were of course well
acquainted with Diderot.
David Schroeder surmises in "The Cambridge Music Encyclopedia" that
Mozart might have learned something about the workings of irony from
Diderot, but as he mentions no meeting, I suspect he means from reading
or salon discussions.
