The band is stellar. They *love* what they are doing. Danny has chosen
an amazing group of musicians to play with:
Larry Braggs - singer (also sings for Tower of Power)
Marc Bonilla - guitar, arrangements
Peter Fish - keys (6 time Emmy award winner)
Ed Roth - Hammond B-3
Mick Mahan - bass
This band blows away present-day Chicago. These guys love what they do
and are willing to turn the arrangements of the 35+ year old Chicago
tunes upside down on occasion (their take on Colour My World is stellar).
I saw the band last weekend for the 2nd time. I was lucky enough to buy
a copy of the cd at the concert.
While all the players are talented, Marc Bonilla's guitar work is
phenomenal (he released a couple amazing albums of instrumental guitar
songs on Reprise in the 1990's).
Braggs has a tremendous voice.
Danny being kicked out of the band was a bigger loss than Cetera IMO. Tris
Imboden plays like a studio drummer without any feeling for what he is
doing.
I agree. Losing Danny was a bigger loss than Cetera.

Wasn't it the best era?

Thanks for the link. These guys are pretty good indeed.

I wouldn't say that though. The horn section is inimitable and
irreplaceable.

He doesn't have to play at warp speed though.

Agreed. On CYW, he is close to Peter.

It boils down to the fact he was too involved with business aspects of the
band. Why he was specifically fired depends on if you ask Danny or the
band. Danny said that he was the only one sober enough to handle the
business part of the band for several years and that the other members
didn't like that when they started to sober up in the early 90s or so. The
band says that Danny was getting too involved with the business and trying
to turn the Chicago name into a marketing cash cow, sort of like KISS, and
the band didn't agree with it, because they thought it would cheapen their
reputation.
