There was a birthday party for Joe Perry at Mount Blue this weekend and one
of the local
DJ's was there. He said the new album is due out in March as we pretty much
knew and then he said it will be followed by a summer tour.

The other details he gave were "Cheap Trick " was flown in to play and of
course a jam
session followed. Slash then gave Joe Perry back one of his vintage guitars
which he had sold off when funds were tight. There's also a pic of Joe in
today's Boston Herald with
"Cheap Trick ". Don't know if they posted it online yet.

Anybody in Boston see this pic?

It says they played "I'm Down", must be the Beatles cover, I'd love to hear
that one! I bet it will be on Danny's site any day now. : )

It also says Joe Perry said CT is his all time favorite band! Maybe there is
hope for Aerosmith after all.

It also says Joe P. has a son going to Stanford for pre-law. Oh cripes, not
another lawyer <gee>

Wonder if AeroMama was there???

I think they've been lost to the dark side of lame power ballads and
mediocrity. There is a band that needs to get back on drugs to
improve their musical output (this is sarcasm, folks). It's been over
ten years since I've enjoyed an Aerosmith album and frankly, the new
shit is so bad that it has killed my enthusiasm for the old shit.

Agreed. This morning "Dream On" was on the radio, so I asked rugrat #1 if
he could ID the band. It took him until the bridge where (Tyler is doing
the screaming bit) for him to figure out it was Aerosmith. Poor kid, he
thought Aerosmith was just a bunch of old guys playing mushy rock and roll.

(I guess letting him watch BTM, Legends and The List has been good for his
rock knowledge overall, though.)

Now, it may be true that Aerosmith hasn't made a decent album in years, but
look what it got them - their own private jet!

Actually, their best recent release is "Last Time" with CT (on
www.trickworld.com in the Audio section)

of it anyway) Sounds great. Reminds me of M.O.B. <g> Aerosmith covers the
Beatles a lot don't they? Come Together, etc. Did they ever do Helter

Perry enjoys Cheap Trick on b-day
by Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa
Tuesday, September 26, 2000

It was like a birthday bash for ``Richie Rich'' at Mount Blue in Norwell the
other day. Because what other kid would have a rock-climbing wall, amusement
park rides, a brass band sent by the Boston Pops and Cheap Trick playing at
their party????

Joe Perry, second from right, celebrates his 50th birthday at Mount Blue in
Norwell with Cheap Trick band members, from left, Tom Petersson, Bun E. Carlos,
Rick Nielsen and Robin Zander. (Staff photo by Matthew West) Aerosmith axeman
Joe Perry. Of course.

Joe, who turned the big 5-0 on Sept. 10, celebrated his move onto the back nine
with a closely-guarded list of 220 - from mom, Mary, and soul brother Steven
Tyler to a few guys he hasn't seen since his early days of rockin' at Hopedale
High!

``I hadn't seen those guys in 35 years,'' said Joe. ``One of them had pictures
of me practicing guitar in his mom's living room.''

Oh, we'd pay good money to see those!

And speaking of guitars, Joe's prized 1957 Les Paul, which he hocked for $6,000
during the lean and not-so-lucid 1970s, was returned to its ever-so-grateful
former owner by Slash of Guns 'N' Roses. ``A ton of people have owned it, but
Slash has had it for 10 years,'' Joe said. ``I've been trying to get it back,
but he wouldn't give it up because of the history.''

Apparently, Joe wailed on the Les Paul while working on ``Walk This Way,''
which the Guns guy thought was rather special.

``I guess he thought since I turned 50 and all, he thought he'd send it back,''
said the birthday boy, who did more fancy schmancy pick work on his Les during
the night.

Whatta guy, that Slash!

As for Cheap Trick, Joe's all-time fave band hopped the band's plane, Aeroforce
One, from New Orleans and performed an ear-blowing set of oldies like ``I Want
You To Want Me'' and ``Ain't That A Shame.''

Which just goes to prove that when Joe Perry rings up the Dream Police, they
rush to respond!

``If you don't like the playlist, blame Joe Perry,'' Tricker Rick Nielsen told
the crowd. ``He made it up.''

During the second set, the band was joined by Joe and at various times by
Steven Tyler, who did ``Train Kept A Rollin' '' and ``I'm Down''; Joe's kid,
the Stanford pre-law student Adrian, on bass; Aerosmith sticksman Joey Kramer;
and Marty Frederickson, who performed as Jason Lee's pipes in ``Almost
Famous.'' They ended the jumpin' jam with ``Surrender.''

``It was really the coolest,'' said Joe, who earlier in the day cut into a
gargantuan guitar-shaped cake and conducted the brass band with his Keith
Lockhart-signed baton.

Also spotted gnawing on barbecue and cake were a posse of Perrys - wife Billie
and the boys, Tony and Roman, and Joe's sister, Annie; fellow Aerosmithers Tom
Hamilton and Brad Whitford and their lovely wives, Terri and Karen; local
rockers James Montgomery and Johnny A and his rockin' wife, Beth; Joe's
buddies, construction guy Lee Kennedy, management type Keith Garde and his
first guitar teacher, Steve Rose; astrologer to the stars Karen Thorne;
official state witch Laurie Cabot and many, many more.

So, Joe, how's is it being 50????

``Not bad,'' he said.

Which in Joespeak means truly Amazing.

Side Tracks

Whatever:

Our fave Martha's Vineyard band, Entrain, hits the small screen next week
because several tracks from their latest album ``All One'' made the soundtrack
for Artisan Films' new release ``Cutaway'' starring Stephen Baldwin and Dennis
Rodman. The action-packed skydiving thriller will debut on the USA Network Oct.
3 prior to a theatrical release in Europe.

The paint wasn't even dry when an oil painting of the Lady Grace, aka Andrea
Gail, was auctioned off for $1,000 the other night at a Legal Sea
Foods-sponsored benefit for the Andrea Gail Children's Educational Trust. Local
artist Joe Kaknes whipped up the work of aaaaht in less than four hours after
the Lady Grace pulled into Gloucester Harbor. The painting was purchased by
Bruce Williams of South Boston. Hope it dries soon!

The Comics Come Home VI lineup was announced yesterday for the Nov. 18 benefit
for theCam Neely Foundation. Yukking it up at the Orpheum will be perennial
host Denis Leary and funnyguys Jim Breuer, Eddie Brill, Anthony Clark, Lenny
Clarke, Wali Collins, Dane Cook, Adam Ferrara, Don Gavin, Jay Mohr and Steve
Sweeney. Be prepared to bust a gut.

And finally, even though his team is 0-4, Drew Bledsoe will still grace a
football card on the new NFL ``Cyber Stars'' series created for Sears. The
cards also feature Arizona Cardinal Jake Plummer, Denver Bronco Terrell Davis,
Green Bay Packer Brett Favre, Tennessee Titan Steve McNair and Washington
Redskin Brad Johnson. Sounds like a score!

Talk back to Inside Track.

It's a 58 actually. This is the guitar that Slash played in one of their
boring videos.. The one where he leaves the church in the desert and
plays that "awesome" solo while a helicopter blow dust at him.

I wonder if RN got him anything cool?

I got on board the Aerosmith band-wagon along with lots of others at the
Permanent Vacation stage (Rag Doll still is a great song), bought Pump and
loved that one too, but ever since then they've gone to the Bryan Adams
area -- power ballads and believing their own myth. I thought the book
"Walk This Way" was a great read, and gave a fantastic insight into the hell
they were going through with drugs and poverty etc, but what goes up, must
come down and I think PV & P was it for them.

Mind you, I'd still go see 'em if they toured Australia again, just to hear
Rag Doll and Love In An Elevator.

Bah! If you read the article, Slash gave Perry back a vintage guitar
that once belonged to Joe in the lean mean drug induced 70's (before
Joe was forced to sell it). Now, if it was a 59 Les Paul, that's a
$100,000 guitar, easy. So who the heck paid for it? You're not
telling me Slash just GAVE it back?? Who paid???

Meanwhile, Rick Nielsen gives Joe a vintage guitar BOOK for his
birthday. Tee hee... musta been a copy of Guitars of the Stars he
bought on eBay from C10.

I think "It's All Over Now" is a Stones cover of a song by the
Valentinos. CT seems to like to cover
the covers (like at the TF3 covers show).
