I was into All Things Allman at this time, they being my favorite band then,
so I had to go see Dicky Betts even though his album was pretty country and
I wasn't really into it much.
James Montgomery was a pleasant surprise. He was a blues harmonica player
(sang too) and had a real good band. They all fit in real well with the
line-up on this night. I believe he's still around today, somewhere.
The Sons were always a pleasure to see; always a good show and a fantastic
guitarist named Terry Haggerty. Bill Champlin's B-3 and sweet vocals.
They're still around too (at least Champlin), I just saw a recent show of
theirs from November '09 on Dime. Gotta check that one out.
Dicky Betts was fabulous and did a whole lot more pickin' than he displayed
on the album. It wasn't the Allmans, but it was kind of refreshing to see
him play different music, and he seemed more into it than the last time I'd
seen him w/ the Brothers. And when Betts was into it, he could be the best
guitarist in the world. Can't remember if he did "Elizabeth Reed" (I think
not), but I'm quite sure he did "Les Brers In A Minor".
