steal at 10 times the price. What it is is every page of every issue through
2007, scanned and ready to view. No audio, no video, no links, just pages to
read and look at.
I started buying RS when I was 15, in October 1970. Issue #69, with Janis
Joplin on the cover. So this is where I started viewing. I've now read up
through #71, and have loved it.
Highlights of the 3 issues so far: A book excerpt from William Burroughs'
forthcoming (at the time) book (though the guy was too looney for my tastes
then, and still is now); an "Open Letter To Timothy Leary" by Ken Kesey
(Leary was in an Algerian prison at the time); a long essay written by Pete
Townsend on the joys of Meher Baba-ism (before Who's Next was released);
long interviews with Grace Slick, and Roger McGuinn; and many great music
articles.
A particular highlight for me is columns each issue by the late great Ralph
J. Gleason. And record reviews by Lester Bangs, whose writing I love.
Gleason had one column about Dylan releasing "New Morning"; I had forgotten
how Dylan was positively king of the music world at the time, and how hungry
his fans were for a good Dylan record after the dark days of the motorcycle
accident and Self Portrait. Gleason is positively giddy over it. And the
record reviewer is too, possibly a bit too much.
Bangs reviews Led Zep III (pretty spot on), and Brownsville Station's first
album, which he declares to be the best debut he's heard in a long time.
I won't bore you too much more, there's so much good stuff just in the 3
issues I read. Even the record ads are fun to look at. Plus there are ads
for books on cultivating marijuana; where to get abortions; it was a whole
different world back then.
Next issue (#72): A long essay on the state of rock 1970 by none other than
Jon Landau! That should be fun.
Anyway, if you like reading and music history, as it happened, pick this up.
Or ask Santa. It's so worth it. $13. That's about the same as lunch for 2 at
Mickey D's.

I thought of you while reading issue #70 (Oct. 1970 Grace Slick cover) ---
there was a short article about how the Aragon Ballroom in Chi was closing
down, basically because they could no longer afford the shakedown money the
cops made them pay each month ....

I saw Wishbone Ash there one night with my GF and ran into a bunch of
Chicago Avenue Jokers who we knew. We were right in the middle of the lot
of 'em and all I remember thinking was, "thank God the Latin Kings have
never heard of Wishbone Ash..."

Just bought the hard bound edition for $20.00 ( retail price
$125.00!!) tonight, based on your enthusiasum.

I'd guess; it's only 208 pages. For every page of every issue you need the
CD-ROM for your computer.
You can buy them separately or together. One guy on RMAS said he found the
whole package (CD-ROM and book) for like $22 on the Barnes and Noble
website. Killer deal.

I bought mine a B&N last night for $24.00 less 25% coupon and a post
card inside for 1) a $12.99 subscription or 2) rebate, I'm choosing
the $12.99 rebate which makes the set $7.00.........Rolling Stone
became useless and dog paper after 1985.................

coming from an alternative seller. I guess it has the book, I really didn't
look it over that much, I just wanted to get it before the price went up any
more. I'm going to give it to my oldest for Christmas. He'll enjoy the
hell out of it as he prefers the older music and does a lot of reading about
older bands and musicians.
