For my proposal I have to have demographic data,.... people
who are interested in learning Delta Blues, basically the age
groups, which I would think would be diverse & why the interest,
.....so if you would please, if you are interesed in Delta
Blues please give age.
......Also why you are interested in this type of music.
I have been looking all over for this data and decided
to try to compile myself.
Thanks

FWIW ... I'm white, 53, a fan of Delta blues, and have been so for a
rather long time, having found my way to the blues when as a teenager a
bunch of white British guys introduced a whole generation of Americans
to one of our own folk forms.
Suggestion - some of the record company marketing guys might have some
good market research (demographics) to help you shortcut the path on
this research.
Good luck

I'm 63 and my interest dates from my university days in the mid-60s when the
blues revival was in full swing. - I saw some of the old timers, like Son
House, live. I was interested in folk, blues and the Rolling Stones, as
opposed to The Beatles and the rest of the Liverpool Invasion. I was mostly
an intermittent folkie until about 20 years ago when I bought a reso and
started playing slide in the folk (not specifically delta) blues style. I'm
now playing more electric-based slide in blues and rock, but the style is
still fingerstyle acoustic based.

The 1960's were such a great time,
with all the mining of blues going on.
I like the stories of Al Wilson with Son House.
I took a few lessons from Paul Rishell, I guess he
also was familiar w/ Son House.
Delta Blues helped create a musical identity for
America.
Now people are digitally mining 70 and 80's
music for loops...
Who knows what is next? thanks
for your help
Kevin
Thanks R;
I know its pretty wild when you think of it,
I like the stories of the Stones visiting
Chess records to meet their idol, Muddy Waters.
When they get to Chess records the black man
painting the inside of the office turns out to be Muddy Waters.
All these artists were rediscovered, like Son House who I think
was in New York working for a train or subway.
It is a music with a very rich history.
Thanks for your help
Kevin
Well, here's another 56 year old white guy who's been interested since the
60's but never had the time nor the cash to learn until these recent few
years.

When I began to study bass guitar (late 60s, early 70s), I, like many others
were introduced to Blues through the British bands. Later, after I got out
of the Navy and began to pursue a full-time music career, I became
indoctrinated into the DC Blues scene, and never looked back.
Over the years, I've had the great pleasure and honor to work with many
wonderful Blues artists who have mentored me in my search for understanding.
Now, more than 25 years later, I lead Deeper Blues, an all-original band
that does everything from field chants to Blues/Rock. We're currently
working on the acoustic portion of our live shows.
Good luck in your project!

Kevin,
It seems to me that collecting random data points from Usenet users
might not provide too much useful info. I think you might do better
by contacting the delta blues performers in your area and talking with
them about who their audience is. Who shows up at their shows? Who
buys their recordings? That sort of thing. Just a thought.
If you want one more random data point, I'm a 54 year old white guy
who found delta blues by tracing the roots of rock and roll.

For what it's worth, 41 years old, White male, West Coast
Canada. Why? Hhmmm... Hard to say for sure. Always have loved the
Blues Rock, Southern Rock kind of stuff. Over the last five years or
so I finally realized that a lot of the stuff I loved was based on the
blues, or was actually just old blues done a new way! When I realized
that some really cool tunes I loved were actually old blues tunes, I
started to look at the origins of some of these songs. Then I heard a
few of my favorite artist talking about what musicians inspired them,
and again, up came the blues....
The good old stuff is so raw and full of energy. Sang from the
heart, not for MTV.... These guys were born broke, died broke and yet
they still had this power about them. Without them (Robert Johnson and
the likes), we may have never heard anything spectaclular from The
Stones or Eric Clapton and such. Anyway, I guess I figured if these
guys inspired so many people that made rock what it is today, there
had to be something to it! Lol.
A couple of years back I got tired of just listening to it,
thought I would learn how to play it. Still trying to learn, lol.
Don't think I'll ever make it up on stage (to perform at least), lol,
but having fun along the way.
