Request which is just a pathetic show. I don't know whats worse rap or seeing
the Backstreet Boys or Nysnc over and over again. Can anyone say the next New

Yes, I actually watch MTV quite a bit. They play a lot of R&B, but rap
(unless it is really popular, like Eminem) is usually delegated to YO!
and sometimes Most Requested Jams.
MTV airs original programming most of the time. The vids, though, run
the gammit. But have you ever watched Amp, 120 minutes, or even After
Dark? There is a lot more than rap played on MTV.

just that -- a group. I think we should all participate, and if that doesn't
work, get some outside help. I've been wanting to do this for a long time, and
now that the subject has been brought up, I don't want to let it die. Let's all
keep voting for Sometimes A Fantasy every day, multiple times, until they play
it.

I think repeat voting is a great idea, but I only think it will work if you
pick a video that MTV has actually played. If you're going to do it, pick
something more common - I'm telling you, WDSTF is the best choice because I
KNOW MTV has it in their posession, I've seen it played before. I have never
seen them play Fantasy.
Just a side note:
When I was voting on Monday, I noticed that MTV posts its daily lineup. Notice
that, aside from TRL, the only time they really play actual VIDEOS is late
night/early morning, when noone is watching TV...the rest of the time, its
cheesy T&A shows.

Good idea. Shall we all start voting for We Didn't Start the Fire? I also think
that we shoul get others to participate. If each one of us tells every Billy
Joel fan to vote, then every one of those tells every fan they know, we could
be successful.

That is just not true. Sure, they have a lot of original programming,
but they do play primarily music videos (some are repackaged like Say
What? where they run the words under the videos). Most shows they have
aren't t&a... Daria? The Tom Green Show? Celebrity Deathmatch? Do you

My problem with MTV is that they play primarily the same videos all day
(except late nite, etc.). However, they mostly play videos, albeit some
repackaged. I have already talked about Say What? Just a quick idea of
the other video shows.
Dawn Patrol-- early morning videos
Rocks Off-- rock videos
Jams Countdown-- r&b daily countdown.
TRL-- I think we know what that is.
Video cliches-- they play videos and point out the cliches (ex.
explosions, rain, etc).
YO!-- rap videos
25 Lame-- special. Shows the 25 lamest videos of all time, as voted on
the website (this show, hosted by Jeaneanne Garofolo, Denis Leary, John
Stewart, and Chris Kataan is really funny).
MTV After Hours-- late night videos.
Sooo, as you can see, MTV DOES play mostly videos, and it isn't a vast
wasteland of t&a shows (I still don't understand that at all? She must
have watched spring break; that is all I can think of.)).

I watch MTV all the time, thank you very much...that is, when I can find a
video other than TLC, BSB, Britany Spears or Korn. And as long as oh-so-witty,
thumb-up-his-ass Carson Daly isn't being all high-and-mighty or Jesse isn't
attempting to get through a complete sentence...hmmm...
Sure, you can pick a day when MTV decides to run a special - like the 25 lamest
which i did watch and today they ran the BSB's favorite videos - but i n
general, MTV mainly plays stupid non-video shows...Tom Green, Loveline, Daria,
Fanatic, The Real World, Road Rules...manages to glorify moronic performers
like Biggie Smalls and Tommy Lee on Ultrasound...blahblahblah...
I've been watching MTV as long as I can remember, and I CAN remember when they
played videos, not stupid variety shows. I used to look forward to the Top 20
countdown with Adam Curry and Headbangers Ball with Ricki Rachtman....the only
deejays I can see on MTv with any actual knowledge beyond a cue card are Matt
Pinfield and Dave Holmes. My T&A comment was misdirected, and its not exactly
what I meant. I was thinking along the lines of Singled Out, which is still on
occasionally.
If you look at the schedule you posted, you'll see that, aside from early
morning and late night, the "music videos" that are just random, not part of
TRL or Jams, come in 1/2 hour increments, which is usually only 5 videos, which
means we get to see Britany Spears, BSB, N'Sync, Korn, 98 degrees, and Ricky
Martin one more time. Your best chance at a VARIETY of videos comes between
3:30 and 7:00 in the morning...whos up then?
And FYI: I did watch parts of spring break and one week of gratuitous T&A is
enough for me for a decade. :o)

I agree. I love VH1, and they have a lot of great shows on there. It's
been my experience that VH1 is for people that like classic rock and pop
from the 70's and 80's. They do play 90's songs and videos, too, but
usually only those songs that would appeal to the same generation. MTV
might appeal to younger people (and boy to I feel old when I say that, I'm
only 27), but I definitley prefer the videos, music, and TV shows on VH1.

Was it "Separate Ways"? I don't mind some of their really old songs, but I've
always hated that one! Bad video, bad cheesy synth riffs, and Steve Perry
looks really ugly and even kinda greasy in that one. I heard about the "25
Lame" show and I was scared that Billy might have ended up in there.
Apparently not though, or else I'm sure we'd have about it here. :-)

the one where he tried to interview his parents? and then he gave them some
lawn sculptures? Also was a skit in there where he pretended to be blind.

featuring Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and it made me think after
the shows how VH-1 is more dedicated to music with great shows like,
behind the music and storytellers and legends. I don't even think MTV
mentioned the R&R Hall of Fame. Springsteen, Joel, Petty, Mellencamp,
Meatloaf, Julian Lennon, all were recently portrayed via Behind the
music/Storytellers/or Legends, and all were excellent!!! Just some
reasons why VH-1 is #1.

No, thank god, but Hall and Oates "Maneater" made it on, undeservedly, I felt.
I've always liked H&O, and didn't think the video was that bad. (But that is

was really surprised to see the video for Metallica's "wiskey in the jar" on
VH-1....I did like Unplugged on MTV and when they used to do really great movie
premiers...i still have the premiere party for the movie "singles" on tape.

I like VH1, but no offense: some of the music they play is not exactly
up-to-date. MTV does play a lot of music, just not music that you like.

Exactly. MTV's demographic is only until 25. I guess ya just missed
it! ;) I like MTV, and I like a lot of their shows. I hate some too
(The Blame Game is HORRIBLE).

Agreed. With all due respect to those that missed it, if I'm still seeing
Billy Joel's Behind The Music and Storytellers semiregularly almost two years
since the original premiere, that's a hint.
