The Swing Solution big band will perform at A Day of Remembrance, A Tribute
to WW II Veterans and Members of The Greatest Generation.

This is a celebration of the contributions of American Veterans to world
peace, their role in the development of this country and the lifestyle we
Americans enjoy to this day.
The plan is to recreate a day in 1945 at San Jose's History Park, including
autos and military equipment from the period, people dressed in the costumes
of the era and a dance featuring The Swing Solution big band playing the
popular swing music of the era.
The San Jose Historical Park, which features homes, businesses and other
buildings from San Jose's early years, will provide the background for this
celebration. Many veterans and vet organizations are expected to
participate. There will be a wide variety of exhibits and events.

Activities include:

Dance to the swing music of the period with The Swing Solution big band
Meet WW II re-enactors and view displays of 1940s equipment and
memorabilia
WWII veterans: record your stories of the war for preservation in the
Library of Congress
Members of "The Greatest Generation": record your memories of the day WWII
ended
Special guests include veterans and other noted members of The Greatest
Generation

Food and Beverages Will Be Available

This is a fun event and the city of San Jose's third annual tribute to
America's veterans. The concept is expanding to other major areas, notably
New York, San Diego and Long Beach. In 2010 the plan is to go nationwide in
celebration of the 65th anniverary of the end of WW II.
The Stories of Service program encourages WW II veterans to record their
personal stories of the war for inclusion in a historical database in the
Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. Many WW II vets have been
reluctant to discuss these experiences, even with their friends and
families. They should be encouraged to do so now, before these important
stories are lost forever.
Members of "The Greatest Generation, including the families of GIs, are also
encouraged to record their memories ot the day WW II ended.
