of the following statements. You may either agree or disagree with the
statement. Support your arguments with specific examples. (30 points each)

1) "Girls make crappy guitar players, because Juliana Hatfield said so,
and she should know, since she's a crappy guitar player, and a girl." (Be
sure to touch on the following areas in your answer: genetics,
behavioralism, patriarchy, the "love-your-captor" syndrome, Juliana's shoe
size).

2) "Courtney Love is a better songwriter than Kurt Cobain, because he's
dead." (Please specifically use your assigned reading of Nietchze in
answering this question. Furthermore, discuss all of the following
implications of your position: the etymology of 'better'; Christian
societies and their fascination with ghosts; the kick-ass drum sound on
"Live Through This.")

3) "Post-modernism, at heart, is feminine. Therefore Wynona Judd is
post-modern." (Please refer to the essay, "Beyond Modernism", and
specifically to the following topics: influence vs. plagiarism; Erotica
as violence in Kathy Acker's fiction; late 20th century architecture; and,
finally, address the question of, "how do they play one of them steel
guitars, it looks so complicated?"
