I have a 1992 DOS laptop whose LCD displays pinstripes in every character.
I understand this means the monitor is finished.
Just wondering if there is a way to counteract this with some
assembler program.

*** I can't help with Assembly(*) but can suggest:

Look for a similar used model with a working screen.
Try eBay or your local laptop store.

Look for a newer model.

I run a 1999 HP Pavilion laptop and it is fine for
DOS. A newer model will have more memory, faster processor
and hard drive, plus will have a better screen. As well,
it will likely have a CD-ROM drive and USB ports. Best of all
one can get such models for a song today.

(*) I can't see Assembly helping. However one generates characters,
would't they still have the pinstripes?
