START ANYDOC.DOC will start msword or winword (or whatever Word is
called in your machine) BUT...
The desired file is named ANY DOC.DOC START does not seem to work as
above. START "ANY DOC.DOC" just gets a window named ANY DOC and
START ANY DOC.DOC does not work either.
Ideas? Based on experience!!

True. The OP may not realize (the poorly documented behavior) that
START takes the first encountered """ (dbl-quote) character found as
indicating the start of a TITLE. Which is why
START "ANY DOC.DOC"
is mis-interpreted and
START "" "ANY DOC.DOC"
works.
