I like how he sticks his ideological picks in at 9 and 10. They were
crap but one had real Navy SEALS and one was against teacher's unions
so that puts them in the top 10 for 2012.

As a stalagmite of movie opinion, the list seems hardly an act of
valor, *except* for that aptly named WON'T BACK DOWN, which gets a 5.5
at IMDb. I wouldn't be surprised if that turns out to be the lowest
score from a nationally-known critic's top 10 list.

Michael Medved is "nationally-known" for reasons of infamy more than
anything else. If Won't Back Down was the exact same movie but
supportive of teacher's unions, do you think it would have made
Medved's top ten?

Iirc, he sprung to prominence with the "Golden Turkey" awards ...a
concept which the now wide spectrum of movie awareness, distribution,
and concomitant quality has pretty much retired.

But Medved's primary "popularity" comes from being the only prominent
conservative film critic (I use "prominent" loosely and in the modern
sense of "conservative" as in Fox News bomb thrower rather than
conservative in the John Simon sense) in the same way that Mallard
Filmore gets printed in newspapers who want a conservative rejoinder
to Doonsbury. The Golden Turkey thing, aside from being pretty
dubious right from the start (pre-VHS era so Medved hadn't seen a lot
of the films he was laughing at, and slagging films like Bring Me the
Head of Alfredo Garcia and Zabriskie Point, things outside Michael's
intellect zone) was mostly the brainchild of Michael's brother Harry,
who iirc, kept the bad movie faith by having a legit interest in low
budget, cult, exploitation, etc, unlike Michael who used it as a
springboard to bigger and better things, being the right wing critic
of choice with all his Hollywood vs. America theorizing.

Here's the list, a glimpse into what was considered bad back in the
seventies (dunno who "Dreyfuss" is, or why you would bother to rate
Dick Tracy Vs. Cue Ball as one of the all-time worst films) Also,
note disparity of IMDb scores with Medvedian "all-time worst"
classification, with that "Golden Turkey" Last Year at Marienbad
clocking in at 7.8:
