TITANIC HAD SOME THINGS WRONG WITH IT. ONE WAS THE PICASO PAINTING
DIDN'T EVEN GO ON THAT SHIP. THE OTHER ONE WAS WHEN THE ICE FROM THE
ICEBURG FELL ON THE DECK AND HOW THE PEOPLE WHERE PLAYING SOCCER WITH
IT, WELL 200 POUNDS OF ICE FELL ON THE DECK IN REAL LIFE! HOW WOULD YOU
LIKE TO BE PLAYING SOCCER WITH THAT!

HOWEVER, LETTING THE FIRST CLASS PEOPLE GET ON FIRST, NOT FILLING THE
LIFE BOATS ALL THE WAY FULL, NOT HAVING ENOUGH LIFE BOATS, AND OVER HALF
THE PEOPLE ON THE SHIP DIEING, WELL, THAT WAS ALL THE TRUTH.

JUST THOUGH I'D LET YOU PEOPLE KNOW.

Not trying to be unkind, Jaci, but using all-capital letters in e-mail
or Usenet posts is considered SHOUTING and rude and should only be
used sparingly.

As for the ice falling upon the decks of R.M.S. Titanic's decks -- it
is a fact, backed up by survivor testimony, that pieces of ice were
indeed kicked about on the upper deck or thrown playfully by some
steerage-class passengers, who didn't yet realise that the ship was
mortally crippled and already sinking.

Those interested in discussing the movie TITANIC should certainly also
pay a visit to alt.movies.titanic, if it's available from your news
server.

Now that my ears have stopped ringing...

Cameron wanted to set up Rose as someone who appreciates art, and to make
the scene interesting you make the artist someone the audience would
recognize. Now he has a no win situation: either put up a (copy of) a real
painting or come up with a fake. Either way would be inaccurate, but
putting up a copy of a Picasso painting, you could say that perhaps it just
looked a lot like it, and Picasso painted the same thing ("Les Demoiselles
d'Avignon", for example) more than once, perhaps a copy. Plus using real
paintings reinforces that they really were Picasso paintings.

In any event, if something like that ruins a movie for you, then there is
probably no point in posting this.

This wasn't the only mistake

Apparently it's bad luck to have 3 steam pipe things (sorry for
inaccurate terminology) so they had a 4th on TItanic, but the 4th didn't
work, unlike in the movie.

The gun that Billy Zane pulls on sparky the wonder boy there wasn't made
until two years after the titanic sunk....

The bodies had ice frozen to them, but the night wasn't cold enough that
night to freeze sea-water.

Bad luck or the fear of it had nothing to do with Titanic's having
four funnels. Many liners/emigrant ships had three funnels. In the
spirit of one-upsmanship, Titanic had four. And while it's true that
the fourth (aft-most) funnel wasn't fully-functional, it still had
pipes coming up from the galley. Cameron's people knew this. If you
look closely during one of the fly-bys, you'll see that the fourth
funnel is capped.

According to the official report of the British Commission of Enquiry
(1912):

There were four elliptical-shaped funnels; the three
forward ones took the waste gases from the boiler
furnaces, and the after one was placed over the
turbine hatch and was used as a ventilator. The
galley funnels were led up this funnel.

Do a search in alt.movies.titanic for information on the pistol, which
was new but certainly in existence in 1912. If I remember correctly,
the cognoscenti have identified it as a military Colt M1911 in .45
caliber.

It's debatable.
The water was about 27 or 28 degrees F. While sea-water itself might
not freeze at that temperature, I certainly think the wet portions of
the bodies floating outside the water could have acquired a thin layer
of ice. This has been often and heatedly debated in both
alt.movies.titanic and alt.history.ocean-liners.titanic without (to my
knowledge) a consensus being reached.

But how would a civilian have had access to a military firearm? I guess the
same way he fished on a lake that didn't exist.

The lake reference was clearly a continuity error, but I think the
bodyguard of a very rich man could manage to acquire a
state-of-the-art weapon from the military, especially during
peace-time.

I heard that the fourth smoke stack on the real Titanic was actually
just a decoration--it was not intended to be used.

The fourth stack was always placed on the ship for luck. A lot of people
mention that the stack shouldn't billow smoke as the other three do, but if
you look carefully you'll notice it to be a whiter, less thick smoke. This
is because the ovens on the kitchen were connected to this stack so some
smoke would be emitted (not the black coal smoke though).
