Oliver Stone is one of the only true visionaries left in the contemporary
cinema, a director known for his powerful and often controversial films. But
beyond the controversy, lies a personal body of work that will long remain
an influence in the cinema. Whether it's in the horrors of a jungle in
Vietnam, or the set of a radio talk show. Whether it's a District Attorney
fighting for truth in the assassination of a President, or a wounded Vietnam
veteran returning to a country that no longer believes in him. Whether it's
Jim Morrison on stage, or Mickey and Mallory Knox on a murderous rampage
around the country. Whether he's throwing us headfirst into a forgotten town
of lost souls, or onto a football field feeling the action as players
collide all around us. Whether it's a President on the brink of destruction,
or a young man enticed into the world of greed. Oliver Stone's films are
worlds upon themselves, reflections of our world shoved right back into our
faces. They are worlds devoid of any false pretense, laid bare as the torn
psyche of a wounded nation. His characters are men and women either forever
lost in this torn pysche, or searching for the goodness amidst the darkness.
He is a director who brings out the absolute best performances by his
actors, whether it's Anthony Hopkins, or Tom Cruise, or Woody Harrelson, or
Charlie Sheen, or Val Kilmer. He is a director who, along with his main
cinematographer, Robert Richardson, has delivered countless images of pure
cinema beauty and unspeakable horror and tragedy. He is a director who will
long be remembered for re-examining America's most recent history. But above
all that, he is a director with a personal vision, a vision that once again
proves how truly precious and special the cinema is, and his films'
influence will be felt for many years to come . This web page is as much a
dedication to Stone and his works, as it is to examining these films that
have already become classics. And of course, it's the site to find the
latest information on the next great works to come. Say what you will but
Stone is the best.
Cheers, Mike

I completely disagree with that obvious lack of knowledge for film makers...

M. Night Shyamalan is a visionary, in the ranks of Alfred Hitchcock for future generations.....

Christopher Nolan is a terrific director, a new and refreshing wind of change for the future of film making and storyboarding....

Lars Von Trier is a brilliant film maker with a mind blowing prospect and poetic talent.....

David Fincher may not be the most brilliant film maker in this generation, but he brings a touch of absurdity and irony in his films......

David Lynch made some of the most richest films in recent memory.....

Ang Lee is a true artistic master of the Chinese Impressionist movement.......

Atom Egoyan's artistic vision is not as influencial as the previous film makers on my list, yet he is a very prolific film maker who will most probably inspire other film makers......

Steven Soderbergh  The Genius who brought the most gripping picture this past year, is by far a visionary and influencial director...................

I just don't see Oliver Stone as the "only true visionaries left in the contemporary cinema..."

Specially considering he isn't even contemporary anymore.....   Totally mainstream with his last films......!!!!

Sorry to say this, but it seems to me, and many others, that his days of glory are behind him.....

Hi Sebastian: I got this article from a small movie web page and shooting
from the hip, which I do all of the time I felt the article was correct. Well,
your post convinced me otherwise and you are absolutely right. I don't
know if Stone's work is behind him but after reading your text it seems that
it is. I better start thinking before I post a blanket statement again.
Cheers, Mike:

I respect your opinion about Stone, after all we're all entitled to our ideas,  I just felt to say that he might not be the "best" of the contemporary era of film making...   There is a whole new breed of artistic geniuses in the business of films....

I agree with his powerful political views he depicts in his films, and the strong satirical explosions made in such films as NBK and JFK, but I find that their is so much more to a film than just messages and views.....

In his later films,  he seems to have lost his innovative cinematographical details we saw in earlier films: Such as Wallstreet, Platoon, Born on a 4th of July...   I thought his last three films were, or could have been made by any other directors,  we just don't see the superb craft that was in his earlier work..

On another related subject,  I am sorry for being a bit rough with my words,  I honestly didn't mean any disrespect by saying that whole lack of knowledge and such...   I tend to be a tad intense when I start writing and I lose myself in the moment.......!!!!

I honestly appreciated your views and I sincerely hope that we keep reading about your views on films and your obvious love for it....

Have a great day/evening..............     :-)

Hi Sebastien: Please excuse my top post. Your answer to my text about Stone was great and
we all should be criticized when we are wrong. I was dead wrong and you made your point.
I actually printed your comments to act as a reminder of what a good post is supposed to be.
> Of course there was no disrespect in your answer and your observation of his latest movies
are absolutely correct. So long, Sebastien. I will be looking forward to your posts.
