(love that flying scene!!!!), and came up with a couple of new
questions.
1. What happened to the actual Heart of the Ocean that was used during
the filming? Does anyone know what it was made of?
2. Does Kate really stand on her toes, or is that a stunt person...or
is it done with a computer?
3. This one isn't really related to the movie, but does anyone know
where to get a good model of the TITANIC that's not too large or
expensive (that I don't have to build)?

The only one I've seen is a die-cast model which is about 1 - 1 1/2 feet
long, and it costs $20. As far as the necklace used in the movie, I read
somewhere that Celine bought it, which she wore on the night of the Academy
Awards show, I think it was, the one where Titanic won 11 awards.

It's even better in the "wide-screen" version, in which the sunset's
colors are even prettier at the edges.

Don't know about Kate, but I have seen it done by a friend's teenaged kid
in person, so I know it's humanly possible, which I otherwise was hesitant
to believe. :)

Below is a link to a toy Titanic that floods, lists, splits in two and
sinks just like the real one, along with ordering information. Don't know
about assembly, but it seems to be minimal compared to typical model kits,
and the price is right.

Here's another source for Titanic models. Go to http://www.sciplus.com/
and search on "Titanic". They have one that's 19" long for $11 that has
about 100 piece to assemble. The other is 24" long for $10, which requires
no assembly at all because it's inflatable *and* it comes with it's own
inflatable iceberg (true)! Both models have a motor that turns a propeller
to move it thru the water (AA battery not included).
I've dealt with this company for nearly 20 years, and they're trustworthy.
They deal mainly in scientific, educational and related stuff for pro's and
hobbyists, so there won't be any other Titanic stuff. But they do deal in a
lot of "surplus" items too, so you can find great deals on all kinds of
bizarre, fun and useful items. If you like the general flavor of what they
offer, ask to be mailed their paper catalog, so you can leisurely browse
thru it offline.
Also, last Christmas, I received a Titanic 3-D jigsaw puzzle that
assembles into a really nice looking 30" long Titanic model. Of course you
have to "assemble"it, but jigsaw puzzles are very different than messing
with glue and tweezers and paint, so this may be fun for you. Each piece is
the standard size for a jigsaw piece, about 1/4" thick styrofoam with a firm
& smooth/rigid outer surface, printed with colorful hull & deck details, and
even includes lifeboats. So the resulting model is extremely light but
surprisingly sturdy and really does look quite nice. Sorry, I have no
source on this one - maybe somebody else out there does and, if not, RSVP
and I'll surf the Web for you.

picture of that 3-D Titanic jigsaw puzzle. Amazon carries it for $20 but is
currently out of stock. At least this picture shows what it looks like so
you can keep an eye out for it when you're out shopping.
At http://store.yahoo.com/aurora/oxlqf1101.html I found another model,
fully assembled, mounted on a nice wooden base, $44 (marked down from $50).
But I'm concerned about their evasiveness re the size: all they say is
"PLEASE NOTE THE SIZE SPECIFICATIONS OF THIS PIECE. The model may appear
larger in the picture than its actual size." which makes no sense, because
you can't get any idea of the size from the picture, and it'd be so easy for
them to simply tell the size! Go figure, i.e., be wary on this one.
However, at http://www.collectibleonline.com/titanic_ship.htm I *think* I
found the same one as above for $50, and they specify it's length as 11.75"
(which is probably why the other place didn't mention size!). So, you can
*probably* get it from the previous Website for $6 less, BUT I'm not 100%
sure it's the same one (though it *probably* is...)
At http://www.surprise.com/framejump.cfm?i=1167&c=90&d=10&f=3996 I found a
really pretty and good-sized no-assembly highly-detailed model, 36" long by
13" high, with a nice stand and a beautiful display case. Only one
drawback, actually two: the display case is $425 and the model itself is
$4,695. Their order-form does have a space to specify quantity, so maybe
they'll give you a discount if you order 3 or 4 of them.

No. The replica she wore was made with real stones (though with a sapphire or
aquamarine, not a diamond, in the center) by a Hollywood jeweler as a showpiece
after the movie started breaking box-office records. Celine Dion's husband
bought it for her as a gift. IIRC it was said to be worth around $3.5M.
No idea what happened to the necklace(s) used in the movie -- there were
undoubtedly several of them, as always with props critical to the movie's plot
(the Ruby Slippers, the Maltese Falcon, etc.).

Let's see... There were MANY different versions made of all sorts of
materials. Depended on what he was using it for etc.
Many were tossed into the Atlantic via old Rose. I hear Cameron kept one. I
heard many were just thrown out, for most were just cheap plastic and so forth.

Oh I know this one too!!!! (I feel so smart)
Kate originally tried to do it herself, but she couldn't stay up long enough.
So they brought in a barre for her to lift herself up on, still didn't look
right. Hooked her up to some pulley's and lifted her up and STILL didn't look
right...
End result? Cameron had a professional dancer come in and he filmed HER in the
dress doing it, then spliced her into Kate.

Try a local toy store, there are some good ones for a decent price.
