pre-publication discount price of $180--AND the first 50 to order right
now will immediately be sent a set of the beautiful Al Herschfeld
lithographs, the one sheets on BIG BUSINESS and DOUBLE WHOOPEE, printed
at a very frameable 16x20.
Our publication date is set for December 15.
Of course, we accept orders by mail as well.

time because I did not, frankly, expect to have an apparent stroke and
the resulting months of difficulty (which turned out, thank God, to be a
really terrible reaction to the awful drugs they gave me. I've never
drank or even smoked a cigarette, much less done drugs, so I was really
susceptible to this crap.) Now, I'm fine and eager to have this monkey,
at last, off my back.

I seem to recall L&H silents are under the control of a guy
named Paul who bought them out from Hallmark. He was the guy
I had in mind when I asked whether his long-promised DVD set
will ever get made.
Can anybody clear up this issue? What source is Michael Agee
using for his set?

Richard Feiner owns the rights to the silent Laurel & Hardy shorts. He and
Michael Agee produced the LOST FILMS OF LAUREL AND HARDY DVDs.

be on DVD-Rs, right? Who's distributing it?

So for those who have the "Lost Films" Set, what additional material is
provided by the above mentioned box set?

My understanding is that all of the L&H shorts have been remastered
using HD transfer equipment, so there should be some improvements on
what was originally a pretty nice set of the films.

Thanks for the pointer, but I'm not sure the names of all the stuff on
Lost Films, by title. Does the big box purport to cover all of this
material plus all of their "talkie" material as well?

That's the guy! Thanks, Bruce.
I'm not crazy about that LOST FILMS set. (How could they be
"lost" if they're on those DVDs?) Too much extraneous material.
Don't get me wrong, Charley Chase ranks in my personal Top Five
Fave Silent Comics Of All Time, and I love Max Davidson, but
what I want is the pure Laurel and Hardy canon, from PUTTING
PANTS ON PHILIP to UNACCUSTOMED AS WE ARE. You can add the
pre-teaming co-starring films like SAILORS BEWARE if you
have 'em, but they're not essential.
The LOST FILMS set needs to be re-done anyway, and assembled
into a more affordable box set. I'm not spending $40 on each
of 1,000 individual disks. I don't have that kind of money!

The $200 is steep in itself, but it sounds like it adds up to a
reasonable price per significant short, depending on how you define
that (I'm also talking US $, admittedly) to include Chase, Kennedy,
etc. I just still have some skepticism about how real this is at all.

I like the films on the "Lost Laurel and Hardy" DVDs, but the music
really gets my goat. Do all the DVDs have the same, fast paced
orchestra music? My favorite silent Laurel and Hardy short is "Leave
'Em Laughing", which Buster Keaton gives a great description of in
"Buster Keaton Rides Again".
