I was an active participant in AMK back during its peak. There were some really intelligent and interesting conversations here. I remember when Ray Lovejoy and Katharina Kubrick-Hobbs were frequent participants. I remember when AMK members laid the groundwork that was to become the Kubrick FAQ, undoubtedly the richest source of Kubrick info anywhere until the release of Taschen's Kubrick Archives. It looks like there are still a few of you left here, carrying on the tradition.

Reddit reminds me in many ways of the peak of AMK, when it was producing rich community-based discussions. There is a subreddit there, r/StanleyKubrick, found at http://www.reddit.com/r/StanleyKubrick/ , I have been posting there, and there are some really interesting threads going, with up-to-date info on Kubrick news and rare finds.

I know there are probably a few die-hards here left... Would you all considering taking the conversation to the next 'Usenet-like standard', Reddit?

Hello, and thank you for the invite and link to SK's REDDIT forum! Last November, KKP let AMK know that she had participant in her first REDDIT Q&A. I'd guess the 'remnants' here on AMK are aware that there are more vibrant SK forums (like REDDIT and the IMDB board) and it goes without saying that the newsgroup format has now mostly been usurped by the social media format.

While I've been here since 1998, it doesn't take much to keep AMK updated with news (this being a 'Network News' group) so that it exists as a point for Google Groups or NNTP readers to locate information which leads to more vibrant SK discussions - like those which you were kind enough to link. Myself, I wouldn't abandon one format for another, since it's easy to follow SK discussions here, and also in the more modern online venues.

The REDDIT SK forum is wonderful BTW, and I highly recommend it to AMK's readers.

Regards,

Steve

Is that you, so_keefe? Thanks for replying. I remember all the great discussions this board had back in the day. I posted under the moniker PitchAudio (long gone now), a much younger and dumber version of myself I'm sure. I also remember Ichorwhip, MGenevieve, Mike Jackson, Gordon Stainforth, and Boaz to name a few. Remember the crazy troll Matt Dickinson? (Can I even say his name here!?) What ever happened to everyone? Bring your smarts to reddit! I would love to respark the excitement we had back then with you all.

I should say, I have great affinity for AMK, but this place is now sadly way too full of spam for me to use it. How do you handle the spam?

I remember you, PitchAudio! I have been lurking on SK's REDDIT, perhaps I'll dive in sometime.

Regarding the spam, we do have the regular newsgroup SPAM, which my NNTP server mostly filters. There are stream of conscious posts from one long-time AMK'er (who shall remain nameless) in friendly fire with another regular, the Yardbirds Buddhist (probably the longest-term poster on AMK), and a few semi-regulars who appear from time-to-time. It's fairly quiet here and not a big deal, and there remain nuggets to be found, new-arrivals requesting SK info, ex-AMK'ers checking in (like yourself), etc.

Regards,

Steve

"I can bring them back, I can bring them all back." By BOG, ich remember typing but was it me or Tyrell's cousin Vinny? On the whole, let me wander around the Kubrick Corner and KUBRICK'S ULTERIOR WAR by Robert Castle and Stephen Donatelli, Film Comment, 1998, exactly as in my "precious" Taskykake tin containing the paper copy. Whatever happened to Professor Cocks? Enthusiasms...

I'd like to see all the SK fans join Second Life and meet at the
Karoba milk bar or the War room in "the Kubrick Rooms. I think it's
still there, but invite only. Second life transcends 'social media"

I went into Second Life looking for "The Kubrick Room". To see if it's
still there. The creator has a note that the rooms are now invitation
only. He asks to be IM'ed. they are not in the same location, which
now has a mall. They are very well done and would make a very fun
place for up to fifty 3D avatars to meet up and sit at the war room
table or in the pod bay or overlook hallways etc. and discuss things
in a more surreal way. Im sure if a bunch of SK fans left him
messages and lindendonations made, he would reurrect them. They are
worth it. Anyone know the fellow who made them?

Here is a photo of the owner's message for the Kubrick Rooms in
Second Life

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/486/kubrickroomsgroup.jpg

One needs only to download Second Life (free) www.secondlife.com make
an avatar and after figuring it out a little one can search for "the
Kubrick Rooms" and then IM the owner. I pass this on because it would
be hellu'va fun to have a SK convention in the 3D Virtual reality.

The owners avatar name is "Rumpledink Robiani" and his group helper's
avatar name is "Klaatu Klaxon.

Who's this Gambit we keep applauding? Couldn't possibly be GEN, yes? Now, Donn-O, here's a reference from thread 30.46 November 3, 1991 where "you" insisted that P A D R A I G was a Grozny Droog. Don't wait for the translation, thou otterly snarkcastic carbonuniteer. V is twitting, let that be a lesson to some of us.
