It seems that Mr. Ryan does not understand how to post to a newsgroup. Since
that is a relatively easy procedure to master, it is no wonder that he was
not able to manage the complexities of building a company. What does time
and effort matter if you have not the wit to know what you are doing.
If Mr. Ryan would like to explain something to the Great Ed Dolan, I suggest
he attempt to explain why it was necessary for him to design and build a
recumbent that would sell for over $2000. that no one in their right mind
would ever buy. Hells Bells, I could buy used motor vehicles for less than
that.
But Mr. Ryan is an elitist who has contempt for common folks. He is like Mr.
Tom Sherman that way. These folks only want to rip off the public and get
rich quick. It would never occur to them to do something or make something
that would benefit humanity at large. They are only out for themselves. When
they fail with their high-priced products, I for one rejoice. Hallelujah!

> Dick Ryan
Mr. Ryan shows his disrespect to all the readers of this newsgroup by not
posting in the correct manner. But that is perhaps typical of him and why
his business did not succeed even though he likes to blame his woes on lowly
bike shop employees.
I am not going to bother looking up anything about Mr. Ryan or the website
he mentions. I already know everything I need to know about him based on his
posts to this newsgroup and, more importantly, on the way he priced his
extravagantly expensive recumbents in years past.
Mr. Ryan is right - I do not know anything about running a company. But I do
know something about what people will pay based on price alone. Mr. Ryan
made a bike for a niche market, in essence, for folks who had more money
than brains. There was a zero chance of him of ever getting his bikes to a
bigger market. He should have consulted with me and I would have told him
that. At the very least, he should have consulted with Bob Bryant of RCN who
would have told him a thing or two about price about which he apparently was
clueless.
Well, Mr. Ryan, it is a difference of opinion that makes a horse race.
In my opinion, you needed to figure out a way to MANUFACTURE your bikes
instead of BUILD them. Trek also started out small, but they thought big.
That is why they succeeded and you didn't. Just don't blame your lack of
planning on the poor bike shop employees. Good grief, now I have heard
everything!
$2600. for a recumbent is an outrageous price, but thanks for telling me
that you think it is a bargain. We live in different universes. Frankly, I
am glad that someone with your attitude failed. May it also happen to all
others who think as you do.
Gardiner Martin at least had the brains to farm out his designs to Sun. But
he like you was never smart enough to figure out how to MANUFACTURE a
recumbent that anyone could afford. A pox on him too!
I remember Bob Bryant's comment in RCN when Bill Cook brought out his SWB
recumbents some years ago. It was .... ho hum, another $2000. SWB recumbent.
That is why I admire Bob Bryant and have nothing but contempt for Bill Cook
and all his ilk who think it is smart to BUILD $2000. recumbents. May the
Devil take them!
$2600. a BARGAIN - indeed!
No one will go to a link unless you indicate what is there. But why are you
defending a jackass like Dick Ryan who never in his life had the slightest
idea of what is good value. He was little less than a crook, but maybe that
is what you are too.

> Mr. Ed Dolan would last less than one day as a manager.
Ed Dolan has a brain in his head and knows what will work and what will not
work. These assholes who think a $2000. recumbent is a bargain like Dick
Ryan are beneath contempt - and then he has the nerve to come to this
newsgroup complaining about lowly bike shop employees who presumably have
too much testosterone flowing in their veins to ever consider a recumbent.
Mr. Sherman, you are one god damn fucking idiot if you believe any of that
nonsense.
Dick Ryan failed because he could not get his recumbents reasonably priced.
Most other recumbent manufacturers are in the same boat. They are all
idiots. Why the hell can't they figure out how to make a cheap recumbent.
Damn their rotten souls all the way to Hell and back!
Jon Meinecke used to be quite prominent here on ARBR. His posts now are just
little asides. He seems to pride himself on his reasoning ability and his
moderation in all things, as if that kind of nonsense has any place on
Usenet.
I can't figure out if he has kill-filed me or not. He only seems to comment
on my posts when I am being quoted by others. He does not say anything too
critical of me personally, so I give him a pass other than to dredge up a
little ancient history from time to time.
It is actually a pity that folks like Jon are not more prominent on ARBR.
Instead, we end up with idiots like Tom Sherman, Jimmy Mac and yours truly.
I think you have to be half crazy to stay on Usenet for more than a few
months.
Larry Varney was another old coot that I loved to argue with. He deserted us
for BROL (a moderated forum) as he did not like to argue as much as I did.
Please note that I do not mind folks taking violent exception to anything I
say. I enjoy argument for its own sake and half the time I don't know what I
am saying myself.
Usenet is for fun and games only. To take any of this crap seriously is
insane. That is the one indelible lesson I learned from Tom Sherman.
>>Only for folks who have difficulty understanding the English
language. *.tech newsgroups often provide a forum to discuss things
of a technical nature.
Folks who like to discuss things of a technical nature are without exception
geeks, dorks and jerks. I give you Tom Sherman of ARBR as the premiere
example of the species. Instead of wasting his time on technical matters,
the Great Ed Dolan has spent his life doing just two things - examining his
naval and contemplating the ether. Jeez, try to get up to speed why don't
you?
> To take any of this crap seriously is
> insane.
>>And your credentials to determine this are...?
Several years of posting to various newsgroups which are just chock full of
idiots. I almost said 'like you', but I don't know you well enough yet to
call you an idiot. Time will tell.
> That is the one indelible lesson I learned from Tom Sherman.
>>It is doubtful in the extreme that you have learned anything. The
capacity seems lacking...
It is true that I already know everything there is to know worth knowing. I
leave discussion of things of a "technical nature" to the likes of you and
Tom Sherman. I suspect you deserve one another.
