He could get a job at Fox News. Just add "some people say" to the list!
It was hoped that his arrest and conviction would have led to an
epiphany that would have caused him to abandon his addiction to junk
science and focus his efforts on actual threats to the wilderness such
as motorized vehicles and horses.
Instead, he seems to have become even more bitter that no one takes him
seriously as an advocate for the wilderness and he has doubled down with
the junk science. Yet legitimate, peer-reviewed, scientifically-sound,
studies continue to disprove everything he claims to believe. I say
"claims to believe" because we all know that in reality he doesn't
believe mountain biking is harmful environmentally (at least no more
harmful than other "under your own steam" activities).
The reality is that he simply doesn't like sharing trails with mountain
bikers, and he probably doesn't like sharing them with horses either
(but he feels compelled to advocate for horses simply because one of his
only supporters is an equestrian).
It would be okay to say something like "hikers were here first so we
should have exclusive use of the trails" at least that would be an
honest position to have, however selfish. When I'm out hiking I really
don't like having mountain bikes going by, but I realize that the world
doesn't revolve around me, and that other trail users have a right to
use the trail.
