I have a 2002 Ultra Classic. The cruise control sometimes will not work,
or drops off just after engaging. I believe it is in the throttle that
is causing the problem. Just where is the part that tells the cruise to
drop when you De-accelerating? Can it be easy fixed?

There are also microswitches on the clutch, front and rear brake
controls that cancel the cruise control. Most often it is one of
those that causes the problem rather than the one in the cruise
module itself that is activated by rolling the throttle all the way
to "close". Not to mention that the switches on the brake and
clutch are easily accessed. The one on the cruise module I think
will require pulling the seat, center shelter, air filter box to
access
the cruise module itself. I changed mine a few years back but
I forget everything I pulled as I've had the bike apart to many times.
YMMV

Thanks SKooter.
I need to find all these and find out just witch one it maybe. Still
need to find where all are, and how to adjust them.

I screwed up on the location of the cruise module. I was thinking
"Gold Wing" when I saw 02. However, on my 03 FLHRI the
cruise module was mounted under the left side cover and had
a cable running over the top of the engine and connected to the
carb butterfly.
All those switches are located either in the handle bar clusters or
next to the brake light switch for the rear brake. All are very
easily accessable and can be tested using an ohm meter to
check for operation. Often the problem is a bit of slack in the
pivot point for clutch and front brake levers which will let the
switch get operated on a bump or just from road vibration. You
might try pushing OUT on each lever and see if that cures the
problem which will tell you which switch to adjust.

There also is a switch in line with the throttle cable under the front
forks. It activates with you twist the throttle "up" to cancel the
cruise control.

Wrong , it activates on roll-off . Opens , actually , breaking the control
circuit . My CC is inoperative too , but I'm OK without it .

You're going to be looking real hard for all those switches because
they're not there.

The cruise has a switch on the idle cable on most touring bikes it's
on the right side of the frame near the front of the gas tank. The
cruise does not have a clutch switch, it has an input from the tach
and speedo if the rpm surges without a corresponding increase in speed
it shuts down. It get's it's shutdown signal from the brake light
circuit when you apply the brakes. There is not a separate switch for
the brake circuit on the cruise.

Had my CC work intermittently on my 02 FLHT. (Installed the CC myself.
Very little drama, actually.) Turned out to be the switch on the
throttle cable on the neck of the bike. Pulled off the wires at the
connector. Problem solved. Perhaps you could disconnect the other
wires to the other switches and see what works(?). Not sure if this
matters, but long ago when on a long run, i pulled my helmet offa the
handlebars where i had slung it. The strap snagged the switch and the
CC switch got yanked right out of the cluster. Smooooth. I pulled off
the fairing and hotwired the CC switch to my unused radio control
switches. Volume up, set the CC. I've been too lazy/broke to put in
the new switch.
