But yet another proprietary video from Microsloff too; called
"Silverlight video". I quit using IE as a browser at least a year ago
when it crashed every time I closed it. Plus it's slow as snot on this
5 year old single 3GHz CPU, 2Megs ram, XP laptop: "Silverlight may
not be supported on this browser" is the message that comes up.

Sounds like a very appealing bike to me because as the article states,
it is designed as a sportbike first, and a touring bike second. The C-
ABS option is also extremely attractive IMO in a very fast streetbike
that can carry some weight, or a passenger. With the fueling sorted,
the exhaust sound good in stock trim, traction control, and the D/S
mode selector - I'm impressed with the application of new technology
for something other than a 200HP rip your arms out 1000cc superbike.
Sounds like dream bike for long rides to great canyons. And I can
live w/ the 613 curb weight in a fast touring bike with gobs of usable
power. I would prefer to live w/o the paddle shift option, however -
Good thing that's an option to opt out of.
But I'm still wondering if your prophesy that it will be a $20K MC is
correct? That would be outrageous, by my budgetary reckoning. Do you
have a source on that figure?
Aside from pricing, rider and passenger comfort is the next question
I'm interested in. The article author didn't say much about that....

The VFR1200 on display at the International Motorcycle Show in San
Mateo, CA had a "sticker" on it with a price of $15,999. I couldn't get
close enough to read the fine print, so I don't know if that's with or
without the dual-clutch transmission or if it was the C-ABS model, or
both. Supposedly, there will be hard luggage for it to, but I don't
think that is standard.

As the 20010 BMW S1000RR has a Canadian list of only $17300 including
the Shift Assistant along with Race ABS and DTC which are extra costs
options elsewhere, is that potentially not a better bike?? There will be
one on display at the Toronto Motorcycle Show this weekend that you can
sit on.
I know I can handle the 193HP, and I know I can handle the front end
lifting at 220KMH when cresting a hill but the 820mm (32.3") is iffy???

I guess the Beamer may be cheaper. It's also about 200 lbs lighter. So its a
true superbike. The Honda has optional hard bags and claims to have
superbike like performance.
Take photos at the show and post please. My SV hasn't moved for weeks.
Its -25 C outside. If there was any significant snow, I'd say it would be
nice weather for the snowmobile - but there is little of the white stuff.

Think a Honda V4 sounds better, but it's not the sound that counts it is
the rideability. My V65 Sabre is great and pulls like a train but its
heavy, too high and too hard to turn. Not sure what the VFR would be like.

Thanks. That's probably the C-ABS standard clutch base model price.
Honda usually lists additional upgraded options second to the primary
base price.
They have indeed entered BMW territory.
I'd like to test ride the R1200S and R1200RT back to back with the
VFR12F. They are financially in the same ball park. Comparing an FJR
with them would be interesting, too.

I never thought BMW would go up against the Japanese in a category the big
4 have all but owned for decades. It will be interesting to see how much of
this market BMW can take BUT I wonder how long will BMW can support the
S1000RR project in a flat or sagging economy if customers are just not
showing up. Some world superbike wins in addition to good press would help.
I live in the middle of a great two-dimensional surface. Range and comfort
is pretty important to me. Not something you usually get with a superbike
but other than that little detail; the S1000 looks very impressive.

I'd have to agree with BMW having rocks in their head for the poor
timing of a head on battle with the big four Japanese race replica's
that aren't selling for shit in this depressed WORLD-WIDE economy.
Meanwhile Honda surprises with a practical middle weight 700cc full-
up, bottom spectrum, sport touring bike at a reasonable price. Maybe
BMW had this planned two years ago and like other slow moving
Dinosaurs like America's GM lost track of their planned intro time
line and just went on ahead in spite of an obvious drop in "race rep"
market share. With Honda selling unsold 2009 CBR1000RR's here in
Phoenix for just $6500's to get them off the floor. Id be surprised if
BMW sold 5,000 of these S1000RR in 2010;)
