At Christmas the Greeks have , like every country, certain foods that
they like to make to celebrate the festive season.
On our site www.greekfoodsdirect.com we will be featuring certain
selected Christmas recipes to get you in the spirit!

Kourabiedes
(Greek Shortbread)

2 cups butter
½ cup sugar
2 egg yolks
4-5 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon vanilla powder
1 small coffee cup brandy or ouzo
1 kilo icing sugar

Method
In a bowl cream the butter, until smooth.
Add the egg yolks and the sugar and continue to beat until the
ingredients have mixed well.
Still stirring add the brandy or ouzo.
Into the mixture sift the flour, baking powder and vanilla powder.
Knead well to make the dough.
Break the dough into pieces and roll these pieces into balls.
Place on a baking tray and bake at 180*C for between 15 - 20 minutes.
Once cooked leave to cool on a wire tray.

Before serving arrange on a plate, in layers.
Shake icing sugar, thickly, over each layer. There should be enough to
cover the biscuits completely and thickly.

Of course I do :-) <waves like mad>

Good to see you! It's not cold here, in fact we've had the warmest November
in 15 years.

> as for tara et al, i know, what a pity.. it started off so gooooood!

Hehehe, I thought she was borderline from the start, posting links that only
just passed the no spam criterium ;-).

Sounds absolutely yummie, pity I don't live closer or I might stop by to
have a taste ;-).

> love to all who may be lurking,

Right back at you :-). I think there are a few of us lurking here, though
there is a rather large group of AM people on Facebook these days. (Though
FB is no match for good ol' AM, IMNSVHO).

LOL, no worries, it happens to me too, so I thought that was what happened
;-). I just figured you'd stop by again eventually :-).

Nah, it didn't. We had some snow before Christmas, which even put my
Christmas Day dinner in jeopardy, because we had to travel quite a distance
for that. Eventually things turned out OK, though. After Christmas the snow
melted away, but now it is freezing again, with very low temperatures
forecasted (and very little snow, so it's not even pretty to look outside
LOL).

Yes, definitely :-D. Rotterdam.

Apart from the cold it sounds like fun :-)!

Oops, I meant that we're on FB individually, we don't have a group there. If
you do a search for my email addy (send dot mail dot to dot mo (at) gmail
dot com) you'll find me and among my friends you'll find the AM crowd that's
on FB :-).

> yep, i'm with you on nothing beats the good ould days ha ha!

I've been completely chaotic and way beyond unproductive, but as soon as
I've managed to wrestle myself free of that I'd very much like to see if we
can get this place going again for those who are interested. I miss AM :-(

I've been guilty of being more of a lurker than a poster, but I'm not a
spammer also miss AM. It seems like some newsgroups have managed to
keep going with a bunch of posters with good spam filters.

I fully agree on that. I have been a lurker in some usenet groups and some
of them still have the same activity that AM used to have, once upon a good
time. I hope we can get the posters back here in AM.

Unfortunately yes :-(. I've been enviously watching other Usenet groups that
have continued to have high levels of activity.

Come on AM people, we can do better than this. This is our home, don't
abandon it.
