We sell Native American carvings and some carvings are said to be made
of a rock called argite. Is this the same as "enargite"?

Can someone please tell me what argite is?

I believe we have a geologist who sometimes
frequents this group; hang in there or perhaps
there's a group that specializes in geology?

Maybe it's "argillite"? It's shale that I think does not show the
bedding structure that shale often does. A claystone let's say. It
stands to reason it could be carved fairly easily with flint tools or
similar.

The pictures I see of fetish carvings after a search are certainly not
argillite.
