through mass polio inoculations conducted in the 1950s (Feldman &
Miller, 1998). The second implies that HIV was somehow concocted
in the 1950s at a biological warfare lab, purposely to infect
gay men, Africans, Haitians, injecting drug users, and others
that the government did not like (Feldman & Miller, 1998).

Since the beginning of this year the Avian Flu has resurfaced or

When I was in Nepal, I took a canoe ride. The canoe sat about 2
inches out of the water at the sides (if that). The banks were
lined with crocs. They kept telling us that it was a sunset ride
so the cool would keep the crocs out of the water but it freaked
me the F out. I have never been so glad to get out of a canoe.

The National Security Agency's new Director in 1999, Air Force
General Michael Hayden, had a long career in its surveillance
operations but his primary qualification for office was his
adherence to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement ? one
which sought direct religious experience with Christ through
Pentecostal and evangelical experience. It was a millinarian
type of religious group, reminiscent of the crusading orders of
the Middle Ages, and best exemplified in the modern world by the
Knights of Malta, the great recruiting agency of many of today's
New World Order people. Its capacity to find essential
professionals, and fit them into key government positions goes
far beyond what Yale University's Skull and Bones Society can
accomplish.
"Like many of his religious and conservative classmates," James
Bamford wrote, "Hayden rejected the antiwar movement and the
social revolution and instead would embrace the military." (1)
Williams went back to the States in July, and started asking
questions about what NSA had really been doing when it came of
warrantless eavesdropping, especially after it became clear of
Thomas Drake's plight for whistle-blowing about the problems at
NSA.
The assassination of Williams and its cover up were the main
problems. He was apparently poisoned by death cap mushrooms,
amanita phalloides, just before he left to go back to Britain on
10th August, either by their being placed in the food at his
apartment there or while he was eating out somewhere. Shortly
after he returned, he suffered the vomiting, diarrhea, stomach
cramps, etc. which are characteristic of this kind of poisoning,
but he seems not to have taken it seriously at first.
While Tenet certainly mentored Hayden, it is worth remembering
that Tenet was mentored by former DCI Richard Helms, so much so
that he had Helms' official portrait at the Langley headquarters
moved into his office so that every DCI would see him as a model.
It is also worth remembering that Helms had such a bitter hatred
of his rival William Colby that he ultimately volunteered in his
unexpected memoirs, A Look Over My Shoulder ? even an allusion
to such treachery ? that Colby hurt Western intelligence more
than the notorious KGB spy, Kim Philby.(3) It seems most likely
that Tenet, while Deputy Director when Colby was assassinated,
was given the nod by Helms to arrange the killing ? what
resulted in DCI John Deutch to suddenly resign when he learned
about it, clearing the way for Tenet to take over officially.
After Deutch's departure, an inquiry was started to see if he
should be prosecuted for having classified materials on his
laptops, what seems like a belated effort to explain it away,
but Attorney General Janet Reno refused to prosecute him, and
President Bill Clinton pardoned him for the alleged offense on
his last day in office.
Hardly had Hayden taken over at Fort Meade than he showed Tenet
that he was the right person to run NSA.
Panetta, as head of OMB and as Chief of Staff during the Clinton
administration, knew about the convenient assassinations,
particularly that of Colby, and now wanted to move on in a more
coherent, structured way.

On the plan to use smallpox as a weapon against the Indians;

smallpox infested blankets, as well as any other method be used
that "can serve to extirpate this execrable race", although he
did not think that the hunting dog idea was practical. Parkman
states that there is no evidence that Bouquet ever used the
smallpox plan, although an epedemic raged among the Ohio Indians
"a few months after" the July 1763 correspondence.
In this context of deliberately using disease as a weapon
against Native Americans, the English trader James Adair asserts
that in 1738 "the Cherake received a most depopulating shock by
the small pox, which reduced them almost one-half, in about a
year's time: it was conveyed into Charles-town by the Guinea-men,
and soon after among them, by the infected goods." The Guinea-
men could either refer to slaves from the Guinea coast or, and I
think more probably, to the slavers themselves. In any event,
the transmission of such goods was deliberate and it also came
at a time of rising tension between Carolina and the Cherokee.

support it. What they actually do in public, however, is rather
different, and deeply cynical.
In March 2004 I interviewed a Belgian man who had worked in
Stanleyville throughout the 1950s, and who had been a regular
visitor to Lindi camp. He told me that he had "many, many times"
seen Africans transporting young chimps up and down the Congo
River by pirogue (canoe) and on the great ferries, in order to
sell them in towns like Stanleyville. He said that this proved
that "chimps coming from anywhere could land in Stanleyville in
the laboratory". When I asked him specifically whether this
would have included chimps that had originated from

raising a hand in reproach, as if he could read my secret
thoughts.
Wherever I went from then on, he seemed to be nearby. He had put
on a lot of weight since becoming chief, and was proving much
stricter than his father had been in his interpretation of our
laws. One morning he ordered a boy beaten to death, for falling
into a sacred fish trap.
Afraid he might blame me for his father's death, I loaded a
canoe with gourds and calabashes full of water, and paddled away,
seeking the island to the west where unmarried women ate guavas.
Chanting to the ancestral spirits for help, I paddled westwards,
as fleecy clouds traversed the green-purple sunset. A pair of
manta rays followed in my wake, which was a good sign.
Yet on the third day, clouds darkened the sky. A strong wind
arose from the west, and the sea grew rough.
Bailing furiously, I chanted the praises of the gods.
When the wind subsided, I checked my course by a star, and
paddled on towards an arc of magenta clouds.
But the atoll was deserted, a taboo place, an abode of demons.
Besides a few stone statues, there were no inhabitants here
besides the crabs. I was almost to weak to catch one.

Akers had taken a job at the Portside Marina, where Colby had

crab traps when I walked up to him. I told him I'd like to talk

Colby realized, of course, that he was in danger of being killed
at any time. But I was surprised when I went to his home in
Georgetown for the first in a series of long interviews. I
thought an ex-CIA director would have the latest locks and
security cameras and top-secret protection devices.
Colby had got rid of a lot of guys in the clandestine service at
CIA. I'd talked to ex-CIA officers who hated his guts. Even
Lou Conein, one of the best-known CIA operatives in Vietnam,
told me he believed Colby had destroyed the agency.
The witnesses saw him at 7:15 p.m. The sun set at 7:57
-42 minutes later.
When he was found dead in the water nine days later, it was said
that he had gone out paddling his canoe at nightfall and drowned.
I was in Paris when I read the story in the International Herald
Tribune. I knew William Colby. And I didn't believe that for

William Colby had been the DCI from 1973 to 1976 under Nixon and
Ford.
At age 76, Colby had found a new career and had just started
writing for Strategic Investment at the time of his death. This
had worried many insiders in the intelligence community who felt
that Colby had already divulged too many of the CIA's secrets in
the preceding years. Indeed, his dismissal by Ford because of
his over-cooperation with Congressional investigations into CIA
wrongdoing. It was Colby who had revealed to Congress the plans
to kill Fidel Castro, the spying on American citizens (in direct
violation of the CIA charter) and the conducting of biological
tests by the CIA on unsuspecting citizens. George Bush replaced
him.
According to the original CNN report, Colby was reported missing
by neighbors who "recovered" his canoe, by one story from under
the dock at Colby's house, by another report, 1/4 of a mile
downstream from Colby's home.
On Monday, May 6th, Colby's body was found just 20 yards from
where his canoe had been recovered, in an area that had been
thoroughly searched several times by helicopters and search
teams.
Most notable about the body was the absence of a life jacket,
which according to his wife, Colby always wore on the water.
As has since been proven to have happened in the JFK Jr. case
false stories were being deliberatly planted in the media,
including one quoting Mrs. Colby herself as having been told by
William Colby by phone that he was going canoeing. Mrs. Colby
denied any such story. The week that he died, Colby was
scheduled to meet with the Disclosure Project.

Suppose the grand jury does in the end find that the evidence
that Olson was murdered and that the perpetrators were other CIA
officers, there will still remain a major barrier to an eventual
conviction--what was the motive? What was so sensitive to the
CIA that it would kill one of its own?
Trained as a biochemist, he had been employed since 1943 in the
Special Operations Division at Fort Detrick, Maryland, was
associated with a CIA secret research unit known at the time as
MK-ULTRA, and came to Britain frequently between 1950-53 to work
at the British Microbiological Research Establishment (MRE) at
Porton Down. Olson was part of a team which was developing
aerosol delivery systems for biological weapons that included
staphylococcus enterotoxin, Venezuelan equine encephalo-
myelitis, and anthrax
Thomas, whose books include a 1988 study of the CIA's forays
into mind-control, Journey into Madness: Medical Torture and the
Mind Controllers, says "Sargant told me that he had urged the
British government to distance this country from it. He said it
was blacker than black." According to Thomas, Sargant told him
that Frank Olson had come to Britain between 1950-53 to work on
attachment at Porton Down
Prosecuting attorney Saracco believes that something happened on
one of these trips that holds the key to Olson's death. Since
the matter is still before a grand jury Saracco cannot talk
about it but Gordon Thomas has his own idea of what it was. "The
CIA was using German SS prisoners and Norwegian Quislings [
collaborators] taken from jails and detention centres as guinea
pigs to test Cameron's theories about mind control.
On 27 April 1996, after Saracco won the right to a grand jury
hearing, Colby who realised that he would be forced to give
evidence, vanished from his country retreat about forty miles
south of Washington. It looked as if he had left in a hurry: the
lights and the radio were still on, his computer was still
running, and a half finished glass of wine was on the table. The
next day his empty canoe was found swamped on a sand bar

McGehee had his career's greatest success and was euphoric. He

Colby silently received McGehee's presentation, finally
muttering, "We always seem to be losing." McGehee was
astonished by Colby's response.
Soon after Colby's visit, McGehee was removed from the field,
his successful program was canceled, and he found himself behind
a meaningless desk at Langley. He was shocked and confused for
years. He eventually realized that his intelligence work,
although arguably the most effective the West had ever seen in
Southeast Asia, produced an undesirable answer. Communism could
not be damned as an evil if the people wanted it. If that fact
became widely known, our Vietnam adventure could be seen in an
unsavory light: killing millions to prevent them from choosing a
government we disapproved of. The American experience in
Vietnam was an attempt at reconquering the region, keeping it in
the capitalistic fold and keeping those people enslaved.
