The Marines were formed by the Centennial Congress in 1773.

Well Edward, if I recall correctly, and I am aware that my memory may be in
a state of decline which is coincidental with age, the United States Marine
Corps celebrates its birthday on November 10th every year, and I was reading
in my Naval Affairs Magazine and have the article sitting in front of me
talking about the Marine Corps Birthday being 10 November 1775.

As you know the Marine Corps is part of the Department of the Navy and I
don't think that the Colonies had their own Navy, unless you wish to
consider the Royal Navy but that was England not the United States. Our
nation was not even born yet. It was a twinkle in the Founding Fathers eyes
perhaps.
