potential military disability abuse?

please direct me to the right one. I'll cross post it to soc.-retired
My dil was a marine, who got out just about 2 years ago. She had a
desk job. But she also taught marshall arts and of course did all the
drill time expected of a marine.
She states she has sciatica and also sore wrists. She went to the
military asking if she qualifies for military disability. The VA did
a through exam of her to include many xrays. I have not read the
report, but she said they found something in her toe, which she hadn't
even mentioned. I don't know what they found with back/wrists.
She plays volleyball on a team, she jogs, is a full time mother with a
1 year old and a full time student. None of her back/wrist/toe pain
seems to interfere with that. I've not heard her complain, and she is
a very active person.
2 days ago she got a letter from the military, saying that she is 40%
disabled. And now will receive $500.00 per month.
Does this seem reasonable to you??
Personally, as a tax payer, I am appaulled. Why should I be paying
for someone that is so physically able that she can play volleyball on
a league, jog pushing her daughter in a jogging stroller, run a
treadmill, and do all of the necessary acts of daily living with "no
apparent" problem.
I'm stunned. It feels like an abuse of the system to me.
I FULLY support the troops. I fully support them getting help from the
military when they get back from fighting. PTSD?...gotch covered. If
you're legitama tely injured...YES YES YES. I want to help with my
tax dollars.
But this...doesn't seem right.
I'd appreciate any feedback you can give me.

And please know that this is not "personal". I work with someone as
well, who works 40 hours a week as a maintenance enginner at our
hospital. He is also collecting 100% disability from our govt....me ,
as a tax payer.
I ennerves me to know end know that I'm paying for the person at 100%
disability pay, even though he can work 40s week in a physically
demanding job.
What is wrong with our system??????
