Using someone else's nym while posting to a newsgroup for the
purpose of getting around killfile filters is analogous to a
certain type of telephone harassment. The law ought to treat
such newsgroup abusers in the same way as it treats the same
type of telephone abusers.
For example, if a guy were to continually call up a woman who
doesn't want to hear from him, and he identifies himself at first
as one of her friends, and he does that as a ruse to get her
attention and to get her to listen to what he has to say and to
try to get her to talk with him, she could have the harasser
arrested and hauled into court and fined big time for telephone
abuse. In many instances the abuser is often sentenced also to
serve jail time for those types of offenses.
When you answer the telephone you have the right to be informed
right off the bat as to the identity of the caller. (I have seen
the law in print in the front pages of telephone directories.
The law requires you to tell the called party who you really are
if the called party asks.) Similarly, before you decide whether
to open a newsgroup message you should have the right to know from
a perusal of the headers whether the message is from someone whose
messages you might want to open and read, or whether it is just a
message posted by a scurrilous pervert who is using someone else's
nym for the purpose of getting around your killfile filters. You
don't have the right to know the poster's real name, but you should
have the right to know if the poster is really the same one who
is recognized in the newsgroup as the rightful user of the nym.
Only an asshole first class would argue here that Rich Greene is
not the real and recognized rightful user here of the nym "Old Sarge".
If other people posting in other newsgroups are using the same nym,
then that is OK provided they are not trying to pass themselves
off as being Rich Greene.
The same asshole first class who has argued here that Rich Greene's
nym is not his has also argued here that the nyms of several other
people posting here are not really theirs.
The law ought to treat the type of newsgroup harrassment described
here in the same way as it treats a similar type of telephone
harrassment.

Usenet, period. Frego didn't show up until way after the newsgroup was
started and I was using it ever since I went online. For him to say he was
using it years before I it a joke.
Why would a 40 year old call himself "old" Sarge?? Everyone knows why he
uses it anyway. It's no secret. I have no problem with it either as long
as people understand that he is also using it and don't attribute his
bullshit to me, which incidently has happened already with Zombywoof
actually thinking it was me and of course a couple other regulars that
cussed me out when in fact I wasn't posting at all. Bet he got his jollies
off on that. Well, no matter how hard he tries, he will never steal that
Nym from me. He can use it all he wants, but everyone knows who the REAL
Old Sarge is and that's all that matters. Not some crackpot that still
thinks his awards and decorations should still be worn, especially on
correspondence. A few people I know are getting a rise out of that one.
He's a first. He's the FIRST veteran to ever post his accolades as part of
his signature line and the first to claim he was in combat and brag about it
with how he got his awards. Nothing but a pissant, and hell no, I'm not
jeleaous and neither is anyone else for that matter. It don't mean nuthin,
but he thinks it does. It really means he's an idiot.

**If email address is NOT "richgreene.com" this post is not from Rich"
As for the nym, "Old Sarge", anyone can use it. I have seen several
use it on newsgroup long before Rich used it. Where do you think he
got it from? As long as they don't use a another person's email
address there is nothing that can be done about it. Trust me, I had
this checked out by my attorney. After all, Rich took it from someone
else.
I don't think people that engage in harassment and say that someone
submitted false reports when the person didn't do such a thing, making
up lies about what the person's soldiers said, talking about the
person's underage daughter, using a person's Photo and posted it on a
web site to harass, and even calling the person a child molester in
one post, I don't think such a person should be allowed to a nym that
in any way reflects of military service. He doesn't own that nym, he
doesn't pay the person's ISP fees, so he has no claim. He will just
have to behave himself on here, and stay on topic, and then maybe
people won't use the nym Old Sarge. They do have a right though. I
didn't think it was right when Rich posted my telephone number and
mailing address on here either, but I can't do a whole lot about. I
did put in my file to show pattern though and preponderance of
evidence.
I have received 4 emails today saying how nice it is to see on topic
messages posted on here for a change. Let's hope it stays that way. I
think our resident harasser and liable would do allot better if he
would quit posting false allegations against me. If he can't prove
what he says, than he should not the charges. Assuming is not proof,
and I have proof that his assumptions have been wrong. I have
personally apologized to him in the past to try to end the obsession
he has with me, but he continues to liable my good name and destroy my
impressive military achievements which will now remain in my tag line.
I suggest everyone do this so we will know who accomplished what in
service.
I rather see people stay on topic, like me, Charlie, and Perry try to
do instead of reading all the false accusations he posts in nearly
every post. I have a right to defend myself, my family, and my honor
and that is just what I do and will continue to do. I can't stop him
from being obsessive with me. That is a medical problem.

Grow up.
Surveys do not prove anything. They are the same as Polls. Anyone can
manipulate a survey food goodness sakes. Besides, this newsgroup has
no connection to the Vietnam newsgroup at all, none, zilch. We are
seeing more and more Gulf War Veterans on here and as the Vietnam
Veterans die off over the next 10-15 years this newsgroup will be full
of Gulf War Veterans. That is the future of our newsgroup and
something we should be concentrating on now, since we are all
inclusive.

just have a bad memory.

That happens at times. I don't why people just don't use their real

doesn't make sense at all. Lots of Old Sarge's on the net:

You are just jealous. You can brag about your MSM, and ARCOM if you
want. That is your choice. No sense in being ashamed of your service.
It is better honest and list your medals versus lying about your
service and falsely claiming you were hit with shrapnel with mortar
rounds when everyone knows you weren't. I don't have to lie like that
because achievers don't have to lie, they can stand on their record as
I do and will:

He didn't post that trash. You probably posted it in an
attempt to pass yourself off as him, and you did it for the
purpose of trying to make it look as though you are the nice
guy and and that he is the bad guy. All of the regulars
here are on to your sick games. All of the true leaders of

kind. We have taken their good counsel to heart and we act

you funny.
