LOL!! Gottcha! I wouldn't have had the nerve to put that as a header,
except YOU know the bitch isn't you, but Prednisone! So, here I am again.
I'm not sweating cold and clammy as much as I was, so I'm thinking it's
doing something to eliminate the inner inflammation. But, now I'm breaking
out in various places, but I can't determine if it's a reaction to Pred or
heat rash, since the places I'm breaking out are in the areas where I
perspire the most - between and under my breasts, near my armpits, and in
the bends in my elbows. They have several different "looks": blistery/a
couple with puss (is that the right spelling? :-) and then just red rash.
Another side effect? On the other hand, I find that when I take off the bra
at the end of the day, and put medicated powder or a cortisone cream on
those areas, they pretty much clear up by morning. Then, the same thing
over the next day. I do see my Fibro doc Sept. 2, so if I can wait until
then, I'd prefer not to have to call him again, but will do so if it could
be yeast infection or an allergy. Guess I just needed some reinforcement
:-) He is maintaining me on the 10 mg./1 daily, at least until I see him
Sept. 2. Thanks for all your help and advice! Nanny

Good one!

Caught my eye indeed. :-) Now, Nanny...are ya complaining about being
young again? Back to teenage acne...ain't ya thrilled? LOL

It's a normal thing with the B in a B; your hormones have changed. And
the changing back to more grwon up ones ain't a whole lotta fun, lemme tell
ya. But the bloodwork will tell the tale if the Pred has gotten the
inflammation down.

Hopin' it has! And glad to see you being so brave in posting, too! See
what the Pred makes ya do? LOLOL

That rash sounds very familiar. It wasn't related to prednisone,
though. Your treatments worked, as did tea tree oil after every shower,
or comfrey-calendula salve. I never figured out what it was. Was it
slippery in any place?

LMAO! I was wondering WHO in the WORLD would have the guts to say that to
Rosetta! And wonderin' if I was gonna have to volunteer to remove Rosie's foot
from someone .... you are ornery, Nanny! :-0) Your trip must've done you
some good! :-0)

Your 'rash' does indeed sound like yeast -- I have no idea how much 'weight'
you carry -- myself, i have lots I carry ....

I end up with the same type galded places from the heat and sweating ... The
only thing that I've found that 'helps' -- after my shower/bath I spray those
areas with my anti-perspirant! I have a tummy fold that I spray as well --
anywhere there may be probs with sweat and heat, I spray relly well with my
Arid ExtraDry! IF the galded area starts getting too intnese and 'hot' I use
that feminine itching cream, like vagisil,m which works for the yeast
infection.

If the skin is starting to blister, or 'tear' -- place some gauze or cotton
padding in the creases where it is starting to burn/chafe .... That keeps the
'folded skin' apart so that will get air to it. (that's the reason you do so
much better when you leave it open to air overnight.

I also try to make sure that when those probs start acting up, I keeep the
areas as clean and moisture free as possible.

Good luck on your fash! I know only too well how agitating and irritating that
is/

I use a medicated anti-fungal powder for the same problem.... Also, put
some on gauze or a cotton hanky and let the bra etc hold it in place...
Works a treat during the day...

The stuff I use is supposed to be for athlete's foot, but the doc said it
works on this and it does...

Well, that subject heading really caught my eye- I'd better go meditate
soon lol!

Probably not related at all - just wanted to say that even a few minutes
in direct (bright) sunlight will give me a rash and blisters like you
describe, Nanny.

Pure aloe soothes it and soaking with tea-tree oil in a coolish (luke
warm?) bath helps, But mainly I have to stay out of the sun (and extreme
heat).

All I know about steroids is they made me very sick(er), and they may
have ended up hurting even killing my pup. So I'm no help there.

take care,

I have had the same thing happen to my face. A friend of mine suggested I try
Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser. I have now used it for over 2

Nanny,
I think I missed the reason that your doctor has you on prednisone. Is is a
temporary thing, or will you need it ongoing?

I was on it many years ago. Had the round face. When they were looking for
the reason I had high cortisol they thought I had Cushings Disease. I did not
have the "buffalo hump" or the round face, so they looked further.

Moonface took forever to get rid of, at least in my experience. Glad you
are not moonfacing. What's with the hump? Are you serious or kidding?
Like Dowager's Hump (I think that's what they called what my Mom's Mom, my
Grandma, had...)??? If you're being serious, does that go away eventually?

I've taken prednisone, methylprednisolone and some other form of it (been at
least 10 years ago for asthma stuff, which I no longer have problems with
and also for acute back pain... about 7 years ago), but the only side effect
(besides moonface and general marshmallow-type puffiness) was EXTREME
hunger. I could eat 3rds of a meal and 5 bowls of ice cream and still have
that hunger pain that you get when you've fasted for over 24 hours... it was
unreal.

But even after hearing all of the horrendous side effects (and knowing of
some myself), I'd probably take it again because it *does* shut down
inflammation immediately. And then I'd probably moan about it (it's
necessary with these things, y'know). I hope you are getting some good out
of it, though, along with the bad???? Hope, hope???

And how long are you on it for? Do you know or is it a "we'll see how it
goes" thing? I was on it for like 6 months (with the asthma thing) and went
from 10mg up to 60mg. Do you get the really, really hot flashes with it
too? And the heartburn? I remember having those symptoms too (but I was
on estrogen at the time, so I assumed it was the pred).

Pardon all the questions... this whole pred thread (poet <g>) has brought
back quite a lot of memories...

Sometimes, Nanny, I wonder who's been here longer ... you or Rosy! lol I'm
thinking ya all popped in about the same time ... there's you, rosy, maureen,
deidre, jeminy, i can't think too good right now ... grandpa alex .... all ya
all had been here awhile when i popped on the scene here @'97 ?? or '98 ???
Micheal Baugh was here, as well as msmossis (sp), i'm thinking chrystal and
freyja came after i did, about the same time, but i may be wrong .... squishie
came on about the same time or just after i did, i think ... thumper was here,
gee, I sure can't think of all the names. The ones I've missed seeing the
mostest and have wondered about is folks like Dreamsmythye (sp?) suebee, Annie
B, nancy (acroftil --sp here??) those are just a few of the ones i've wondered
about ... and send lots of prayers that all are doing well with them!

I know that the big blow up over the amf and amf-recovery? whatever its called
lost a lot of folks ... which is sooo sad! Which is why, i believe, but then
it's only a 'debbie-opinion' ... which is why it's so important for the
'newer folks' especially to understand that the trolls really ARE detrimental
to the peacefullness of this, well, any ng! I've watched some hellacious flame
wars from the side-lines --- participated in a few, myself ... but finally
realized that folks had to put some perspective and balance into their 'ng
lives' -- or it would suck them dry!

Anyway, sorry for the mind flight! lol mammaries, such wonder full mammaries
... oh yeah, that's another thread!! :-0)

As far as the nurse thing .. nah, no nurse's trainin ... just 'nursin' my own
stuff! That puffed up my sails, tho' ! :-) Thanks for the compliment! :>}

Hope the 'b in a b' gets gone quickly! I like that euphanism, Nanny -- fits
the pred dragon perfectly! <grin> Oh! and I've also found that if I'd use
like, Icy Hot (or blue gel generic costs only $1 at the dollar store!) on the
dowagers' hump (god that thing hurst sooo badly!) when the pred kicks in ---
it helps to get down 'under' that humpie thing where it seems to burn soo
badly! But, if you're anything like I am when I've been on it for awhile ...
my muscles would start hurting way down deep UNDER the muscles where I couldn't
even massage the pain out to get relieve!

My girls would call me Dryconea, MeggaBitch after I'd been on pred for 4-6
weeks and my muscles would start pumpin up! The moon face and the humpie thing
were bad enough to contend with, but when the muscles started pumpin' up ---
and all I wanted to do was 'slam something' to get the physical aggression
outta my system ... they walked softly and stayed well outta arms reach!

Sorry you've got to be dealing with that nasty 'b' again ... I sure do know and
understand what you're dealing with! :>{ ain't even no picnic, thats for sure!
Hoop you're feelin' much better soon!!

I'm serious about the hump. Call it Dowager's hump, which I understand goes
along with osteoporosis and age, or buffalo hump, which when I did some
research on Prednisone, found they used those exact words LOL! They both
look the same, but may be caused by different situations. Fortunately, I do
NOT have osteoporosis.

Oh yes, the appetite! That's one of the classic side effects - weight gain,
which I definitely don't need! Even though I'm joking about taking Pred, I
know my new Fibro doc wouldn't have prescribed it unless it was necessary.
Hoping it will be temporary and that he will taper me off of it before too
long. He started me at 10 mg. twice a day for a week, then 10 mg. just once
a day until I see him again Sept. 2. Not necessarily hot flashes, but in
the beginning, was sweating profusely and my skin felt like clammy, cold
fish. Rosie said that was a normal reaction. My massage therapist didn't
know I was on Pred and the last time I saw her, she made the remark that the
heat that used to be around my TKR leg was gone! Good sign!

The "acne" thingie mentioned by Rosie and someone else is a puzzle to me,
not understanding how Pred would change one's hormones back to a teenager's.
Perhaps someone will explain that more. Back to the "buffalo hump": My
sister lives down south, and they have an animal retreat near her home.
It's called The Buffalo Park - they roam freely on the grounds. So, when I
shared with her about Pred and the "hump", I asked if she thought there
would be room for me at the Buffalo Park if necessary. Her answer: "I'm
sure there would be, but don't expect me to come feed you!" Nanny

way normal life. That counts for a lot with some of us.

Since you mentioned it, the first time I was put on Pred, I stated to the
doctor that I'd heard so many scary stories about it. His answer was that
Pred is also a "life-saving" drug in many cases. So, while I still don't
particularly like it, most of what I'm writing is half in jest, ever since
Rosie said she and Norm call it "bitch in a bottle" :-) Nanny

Ok good Nanny.... it is a life saver for some of us... just did not want
everybody else to think it is the worst thing and not take it when/if they
have to. Thanks <grin>

I'm just glad you reminded me that for some people Pred is necessary and
vital. That goes for other meds as well; my desire is NOT to discourage
someone from taking a drug that might be good for them :-) Nanny

That's fine Nanny.... hope you don't have to take it and if you do, hope it
works out just fine. Sending good wishes your way.
