I am so sick of waffling between the fatigue where I sleep all day, and the
insomnia where I am up all night I could puke. I am so furious and
frustrated with myself, I want to spit. This is so damn irritating.

I must have a really strong heart, because if not, I surely would have
stroked out long ago with the frustration level the sleepless nights, you
know, the nights you sit up AWAKE screaming in you head GO TO FUCKING
SLEEP!! Yes, I am yelling, I am P I S S E D. I HATE THIS DAMN DISEASE!!
HATE HATE HATE HATE.

The Neurontin was working so well in helping me sleep. I started on 300
mgs. a night, and it worked for a couple of months. I was getting the best
sleep I had had in years. Then, it stopped. Usually, the honeymoon time is
much shorter for me, so I really thought I had THE drug that addressed my
sleep issues. Then, kaput. My doctor has doubled the dose, but it has not
helped at all. I don't understand that...I thought doubling the dose would
at least give me a little relief, but nnooooooooooooooooo. Sheesh. I am
trying not to curse. Telling myself that cursing is the efforts of a small
mind trying desperately to express itself. ooooooooohhhhhhhhh, but it seems
only curse words touch the level of frustration I am feeling right now.

Well, back to the bookshelf, to find yet another book.

Yep, I've been trying naproxen (for possible costo) and I thought I was sleeping
more. It seemed/seems to help my raspy breathing too. It made my brain "fuzzy"
so if I woke up, I could change positions and go back to sleep. Last night I
had about 10 of those wakeups :(
What I've determined, after about 5 days of that, is all it's doing is giving me
poor sleep and still have to sleep during the day, even longer to make up for
the short sleep at night :(

I never, since I was 6, slept more than 5 hours a night, usually
less(save for being ill with fever), and I have read so much more, seen
so much more movies on the tube, can read so much more NG's than other
people. I even did half my free lance work and my masters mainly at
night! When the children were young I would knit sweaters for them, make
christmaspresents, taught myself lace-making from a book, the same with
weaving, painted canvasses, wrote poetry and stories etc.
Now, on the codein for pain and lorazepam for cramps I sleep 8-9 hours
sometimes and even somedays take a nap and I find the days too short.
Lots of books go unread. And I still have to do 2 of the 3 volumes of
Feynman lectures on physics before I start pushing up the daisies. I need
the time! When not in years, then at least in hooours per day.

I know the feeling. Up until a few months ago insomia at night was
occasional....not near constant as it has been. Too bad alotta channels
have info-mercials running at night. But...I suppose that's what a VCR
or DVD is for...

Ziggy,

I wish that was the answer, that my rhythm was confused. Some nights, I
sleep fine. I go to bed at 11-12, and wake up at a reasonable. The nights
I have insomnia, I don't sleep at all, or I finally drop off out of sheer
exhaustion for a few hours. Not quality sleep at all, for the most part.

And I know you are trying to help. Never thought anything else. I really
wish I could find an online University that was respected and that I could
attend online. Not the ones that you pay your fees, and they send you a
"diploma."
I would try to attend college, however I know I would have problems with
mobility issues, and sitting too long in one place. I hear if you live in
California, you can take college courses on TV! That would be great!! Or a
combination of the two.

Sigh,

This is true. My friend did some of her nursing courses that way.

Ziggy,

I was so embarrassed. I took a beginning water color course at night last
year, a course they call a leisure course. It was either 2-3 hours 2X a
week. It was so painful for me, I had to drop out. I felt like such a
failure.

I am interested in many things, ancient civilization, anthropology,
sociology, economics. Art history, oh, I could go on and on! <g> I keep
getting spam from this place called Phoenix University, but I do not think
they are legit.

I live in Baton Rouge, very close to Louisiana State University. It amazes
me that people in prisons can get law degrees while they are incarcerated,
but I cannot find the same benefits for me, a law abiding citizen.

My reumatologist tried placing my on a low dose of ambien so I could
regualte my sleep. Kinda worked the first couple of times, then I'd go
to sleep for two hours then wake up again. Then my system insisted I be
kept up regardless. Regualr doctor took me off the medicine and stated
"just sleep when needed" regardless of the time of day.

In my own case I highly doubt it's the "sleep schedule" persay. Or if
it is, it's a product of the problme, not the main cause. I noticed at
night I tend to get more achey and uncomfortable than normal...around
the same time the humidity goes up. Since I already know I'm highly
sensative to weather change and conditions, wouldn't be too surprised if
that was a major contributing factor.

What to do about it is another issue.

Hi:

Again, I recommend trying Zanex and Zanaflex.... I take two of each before
bedtime and it USUALLY works good as I never slept well before that. Good
luck.

I'll have to ask the doctor when next I see him. I looked up some info
regarding the Zanaflex and find some of it of concern. I've had
side-effects of hallucinations and pychosis before (Usually with
exceedinly low doses of with a majority of anti-depressents and some
muscle relaxers. Wasn't a good feeling. And was driving everyone else
around me up the wall.) And since It's been established my system will
experiance side effects with almost anything that remotely looks at it
funny...well, seems at times the "cure" is worse than the symptom.

But wouldn't hurt to ask his opinion and if he agrees, to ask he place
me on it as a trial basis until I know how it works for me.

Question: I just me...or are a majority of FMers waaaaaay too sensative
to medication?
