We know massage therapy can help, tho temporary.

Chiropractic care can be more long acting, but make sure you find someone
gentle, no back crackers!

Guaifenesin therapy is becoming much more recognized for long term
treatment, with many more physicians using this treatment-though it is not a
quick fix. Takes time and commitment by the patient. Reading the news
group is the best idea to see how people are reacting to this medication.
http://www.fibromyalgiatreatment.com/ The Doctor and his staff have
fibro, so they are very supportive.

Xyrem for sleep is now being used off label for sleep and does a lot to
lower pain of fibromyalgia.
http://www.xyrem.com/ For more info from patients taking xyrem, check
this message board: "Talk About Sleep"

Also read the narcolepsy board (xyrem users)

Savella is another new drug. Some info here:

Narcotic pain therapy. I high recommend pain management when one gets to
the point where they cannot get any relief from anything else. There are
more and more pain management physicians now then there were 14 years ago
when I was at my worst. I was lucky to find a doctor who was an
anesthesiologist specializing in pain management and she was willing to rx
what ever was needed. I was on very high doses of oxycontin. Still,
eventually that was not enough. Morphine pump was the next option.

For me; I have been on guaifenesin for 10 years and have taken xyrem for the
last 3 for sleep. Guaifenesin has been the answer for me. I have little
if any pain and yet there was a time long, long ago that I wasn't sure I
wanted to stay in this world suffering the kind of pain I had.
Opiods were a godsend in the beginning, but when 180mg of oxycontin q8h,
does very little to control pain, one can go to another narcotic,
another/higher dose or try something different altogether. It was then that
I began to read the message boards on the Guaifenesin support site. I was
at the point where I was willing to at least try, I was at the end of my
rope. I remember spending days just reading those boards and the info about
this treatment.
To this day, I am thankful I did.
No matter my case, I am a big supporter of Opiods for fibro pain. Of
course, also of guaifenesin.

We all need to find our own path and that means education. Search out
information about fibromyalgia and never stop searching until you find
something that helps you. What works for one, may not for another.
With the Internet, we have a never ending supply of information at out
finger tips. Use that tool and be your own advocate.

The medicine that caused improvement in symptoms for
six of ten women with fibromyalgia wasn't even mentioned.
Oh, well. Can't believe what those Stanford folks get printed
in a medical journal, can we?

Might as well throw in a site for that Stanford stuff.
http://snapl.stanford.edu/research/ldn.html

Of course, we can't count on it till a big pharm
company like Pfizer has one of its researchers
pushing it, can we? Preferably, one that has not
had his research articles retracted because they
were fraudulent.
