TWO FOUNDATIONS COOPERATE TO ANNOUNCE PAPER ON TOXINS
The National CFIDS Foundation, in cooperation with the Nancy Taylor
Foundation for Chronic Diseases, have announced a formal Green Paper
on Algal Toxins prepared by Dana T. Cesar, Ph.D.

"Because of the evolutionary function of blue-green algae (BGA) to
biodegrade matter, effluents into Oklahoma's water system encourage
algal blooms that produce toxins that target the nervous system, the
brain and the liver. Toxins are lethal or debilitating, even in
small amounts. Vulnerable
populations, like children, the elderly or those with lowered immune
systems
are particularly susceptible to diseases caused by algal toxins.
Because the United States has not yet set any guidelines for 'any of
the
cyanotoxins,' state and local authorities are left to determine their
own
standards, as per the Clean Water Act of 1972. Furthermore, the
Safe
Drinking Water Act amendment of 1996 required states to protect
'drinking water and its sources: rivers, reservoirs, springs, and
ground water wells."
In light of the evolutionary endurance of the bacgeria, a current
outbreak
of harmful algal blooms and an impending water shortage, the Green
Paper
calls on authorities to generate focused and coordinated discussion
for
immediate and state action in mobilizing resources at 'war-time
speed' for the
protection of the public against cyanobacterial toxin exposure."

Went back and reread, and I'm not sure who sent the message mentioning
Tom H wants us to support WPI.
I wrote an email to R.E.S.C.I.N.D. -- Jerry and Tom H and asked them
if they knew their website show's: domain not valid -- This site is
temporarily unavailable, etc., and Jerry wrote back to tell me they
are in the process of changing web sites. Not sure why they are

I support the ME petition but I can't support WPI under the
circumstances, not even if Tom H asks. I do, however, support Tom H's
May 12 Awareness Day but hope he understands my feelings about WPI,
IACFS and CFSAC. I do hope Tom is pain free and healing as much as

that later,

Today is Veterans Day and I dedicate today's comments to our Veterans.
I was born at an Air Force Base and appreciative of Veterans, since a
very young age. My stepmother served as a WAC, my birth father, Air
Force and Navy. My childrens father served the Navy. My husband
served the Army.
Since about the age of 4 I dreamed of being a nurse. Several of my
Aunts and step grandmother were nurses. I went to the Air Force
recruiters office and didn't realize until after all the testing,
etc., when it came down to signing on the line, just prior to being
offered the papers to sign, I was briefed about my having to sign
custody of my children over to someone else while I was to do basic
and tech training. I could not sign it.
I inquired about a Ceta grant and was accepted and graduated Licensed
Practical School of Nursing. Over the many years, as a nurse, I've
worked with medical Veterans, and cared for several Veterans,
including two four star Generals.
My foster mother was a retired Colonel. She and my step mother have
died and as I look back at their photo's I'm as proud of them today as
I was so many, many years, ago.
Recently, millions of dollars were allocated for our Veterans and the
care they need.
I had hoped to go to town and watch our Veterans Parade down main
street, but woke with a terrible headache, and will look forward to
next weeks paper when the pictures of our Veterans Parade will be
shared.
To those who serve and served our Country, honorably, I honor you.

It is with great sadness I have to let you know we lost Linda C.
Ferris, of New Hartford Connecticut, she died at home on Sunday
November 8, 2009.
She had been sick for several years. She took her own life. A
graveside service was conducted by Pastor Kimberly W. Wadhams November
11th, 2009 at 10 am. She and Pastor Kimberly, attended Sunday School
together, as children.
She had always told me she was planning her own service and in the end
the bag pipes did play for her. When she talked about her death she
always talked about the bag pipes and the person she wanted to play
them.
Please take a moment and say a prayer for LInda, and her loved ones.
I'm going to go back thru her last emails. I have just gotten off the
phone with Sue, her best friend. Please keep Sue in your prayers.
Linda's last request was that in lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be given to the National CFIDS Foundation, 103
Aletha Road, Needham, MA 02492-3931 at

The Gleeson Mortuary was entrusted with Linda's arrangements.

Regarding retroviral research:
Elaine DeFreitas' work had nothing to do with a
retrovirus. She stated, quite clearly, that it was "retroviral-
like".
This work was completed and reported upon. In a nutshell, using the
latest PCR primers based upon all the HTLV-II strains reported upon in
the literature (Pubmed) plus Genbank, only 2% of CFIDS patients were
found to have HTLV-II. Separate testing was also completed using
DeFreitas' probes as well.....
Dr. DeFreitas was very helpful in following up with this work.

In August 1991, together with co-author Brendan Hilliard,
Elaine De Freitas had applied for a world patent that was
subsequently issued in April 1992. Detailed information has
been provided by Dr Alan Cocchetto, Medical Director of The
National CFIDS Association

Cocchetto is clear: “the contents of this paper have major
implications
due to the depth and scientific quality of the work…The entire
patent is approximately 40 pages. If the NIH ignored the
depth of this work… then the NIH dropped the ball on this one
and should be held accountable.
The inventors even state:
‘The ability to screen blood samples infected by CAV
(CFIDS-associated virus) enables producers and
distributors of blood products, eg. the American Red Cross,
to identify and discard donated blood…intended for use in
transfusions…If unscreened, the use of such blood and
blood-derived products could contribute to the spread of
CFIDS’.
The inventors reveal: ‘Neither HTLV-I, II, nor HIV
virions have ever been found inside mitochondria… the
positive results support the possibility that this CAV is
capable of casual transmission to non-infected persons’.
If the NIH ignored this last comment, then something is
dramatically wrong with the agency that is supposed to
protect and safeguard the welfare of the citizens of the United
States.
Again, the implications here are just staggering…The
only conclusion that can be reached is that this work is very
thorough and extensive. It has been funded by the NIH….Any
retrovirus that can invade the mitochondria directly indicates
trouble. As far as I’m concerned, there needs to be a criminal
investigation of the NIH regarding why they refused to fund
upon submission of all this data”.
It has been said that De Freitas’s reputation was intentionally
destroyed because her research did not support the theory
that (ME)CFS is a psychoneurosis, and that her public
discrediting caused others to fear following up her work
(Co-Cure;NOT: 16th October 2009).

Anesthesia has adversely affected patients with CFIDS (also known as
chronic fatigue syndrome and myalgic encephalomyelitis). The reason
for this has been found. Recent research* funded by the National CFIDS
Foundation, Inc. found that a substance, much like ciguatera toxin, is
being produced in the body by a disease process in those with CFIDS/ME/
CFS. Dubbed the “ciguatera epitope,” this research explains the danger
of using any anesthesia that uses the sodium channel at the cellular
level. Some anesthesiologists have had success blocking the sodium
channel during anesthesia for CFIDS/ME/CFS patients.
