Hi,

My name is Alex. I have had CFS now for almost 21 yrs. In Sept I
was diagnosed with Diabetes. I am supposed to exercise every day -
yay right. I have been doing as told and had a crash yesterday.

Any way - are there any other CFS'ers with diabetes here on the
list. If so how do you deal with both?

Thanks
Alex

I don't have diabetes, but I've been told many times by many drs to exercise daily and with great instensity..cardio. weights, the whole thing. I'm wlling to bet that a huge percentage in this group have heard the same thing. Doesn't help much that I was very athletic before becoming ill in 1976.

I manage it by striking the best balance I can, which means very little exercise. If I'm feeling well I may walk my dog around the block. But mostly just doing the minimum to keep the house functioning is my exercise. I'd be ashamed to tell you how long it's been since I washed the sheets. pushing myself into a relapse means no exercise at all, so there's really no benefit to that. And most Drs just don't get it.

Hope you get some really specific answers to your question. We all do the best we can.
Kim

Hi Alex..I'm Hope! I've had cfs for 15 years now and diabetes for about 5.
FORGET about exercise, it'll kill you. If I cross the line between existing
and pushing (never know where that line is), I get so sick.
The best thing I can say is just moving around the house as much as you can
or going for short short walks.
If not, the best thing you can do is just really watch the food intake and
stress. Easy to say, but anything that calms the body down will keep the
sugar lower. I also take some great supplements to lower sugar and they
really work.

Let me know if you're interested. I see a really smart holistic doc (as
well as a whole team of other docs) who's specialty is diabetes and cfs.,

It might have been helpful to mention which type of diabetes you have - I assume type II?

I don't have diabetes, but I'd recommend looking into lipoic acid, if you aren't taking it already. It is an excellent supplement for both CFS/ME (it can help fatigue and muscle weakness) and diabetes.

Please listen to your body instead of the doctors' recommendations. They don't understand that exercise and CFS/ME just don't mix.

Yes type 2.

I will look into it, but I can't take most supplements, not even a
multi vitamin. I have tried the stuff for joints and can't take
that. I have tried the stuff for IBS and can't take that, etc.

thanks
