Most people have been brainwashed with false and misleading information
on the Religion, Culture and History of India. Most Hindus living in
the west have very little or no knowledge about their own Religion,
Culture and History. If you have children, it is your duty as a parent
to educate them... Kamlesh Patel (09-14-00)

was one of the greatest achievements of ancient India in the field of
education.
6. India has never invaded any country in her last 10,000 years of
history.

India was cleverly denied authenticity and downplayed by those who came
to rule India, the Arabs and the British.
8. Sanskrit, the oldest language in the World, originated from India.
9. The ancient Indian astronomers had tabulated the movement and
positions of the sun, planets and the stars in space, long before Isaac
Newton came up with the theory of gravity after the apple had fallen on
his head.
10. USA based IEEE has proved what has been a century old suspicion in
the world scientific community that the pioneer of wireless
communication was Prof. Jagdeesh Bose and not Marconi.

Arabs brought the knowledge of India to the West after invading India.
Hindsaa (numerals) in Arabic means from India.
12. India was the most peaceful country on earth before the Arab
invasion in the 8th Century.
13. The art of Navigation was born in the river Sindh 6000 years ago.
The very word Navigation is derived from the Sanskrit word NAVGATIH.
The word navy is also derived from Sanskrit 'Nou'.

scientists of his time conducted complicated surgeries like cesareans,
cataract, artificial limbs, fractures, urinary stones and even plastic
surgery and brain surgery. Usage of anesthesia was well known in
ancient India. Over 125 surgical equipment were used. Deep knowledge of
anatomy, physiology, etiology, mbryology, digestion, metabolism,
genetics and immunity is also found in many texts.
18. India is the largest Democracy in the World.
19. The greatest knowledge on Love, the Kama Sutra is the work of
India.
All Hindus should feel proud of their heritage and achievements.
> India is one of the few countries in the World, which gained
>independence without using violence.
This statement makes me think of the extremely bloody
clashes which happened during the partition of India
leading to the creation of Pakistan. I wonder what happened
to Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence while they were
cutting the throats of each other. One of the few countries
is Mauritius!
> The Art of Meditation and Yoga originated from India.
No doubt India delved deeper than many countries in
the nature of the soul. Many indians just disappeared into the
forests in search of THAT knowing which one shall know
everything. The Buddha is a good example. I am
sure it is still happening today but to a lesser extent.
One must not forget that these excursions into the Unknown
led to the creation of several religions with catastrophic
consequences.
> India has never invaded any country in her last 10,000 years of
history.
When I read this I could not help thinking of the invasion
of Bangladesh which was fighting for its independence. It
might have been welcomed by Bangladesh but it was
still the crossing over into another country. Would not
India invade the pakistani side of Kashmir if she had
the chance?
>India is the largest Democracy in the World.
This is true but india has a cruel caste system which
influences its 'democracy'. It is amazing that
a people which has delved so deeply into the inner
nature of man came up with such a system!
Of course an indian will always dwell on the bright
side. But the brighter it is the darker the other side
seems to be!
It applies to any great civilisations. '...cultures of China, India,
Sumeria, Egypt, the Indus Valley or Anatolia! All of them achieved an
extraordinarily high degree of technical skill and 'know-how' and
enjoyed a very sophisticated urban life. Yet, these civilizations all
halted, apparently on the very threshold of a scientific revolution. The
climate was right, records were extensive, natural resources abundant -
yet, for some reason, they too stopped short of advancing into Science.'

The above links gave acknowledgement to the debt owed to past
civilisations. It is understandable that nitai777 (assuming that he is
mauritian-indian) should take pride in the achievements of the Indian
civilisation. But really, one should take one's hat off to any group of
people who comes up with some stonking idea or discovery ... and also
keep a sense of perspective. One could make a case that the smoke
signals of the red indian or the african tam-tam are precursors leading
to the modern mobile telephone!

There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.
It is a mystery why some civilisations did not
progress and continued to explore what they had
discovered. I will check out the addresses you
have provided.
My theory regarding why these civilisations 'halted'
is that because discoveries are a spontaneous happening
the thinking processes of the brain were not evolved
enough to take full advantage of these discoveries. I also
believe that the evolution of the brain is not uniform on
the planet. Even in a socalled very civilised society there
may be degrees in the evolution of the brain. Every
brain thinks but although it is taught what to think it does
not know how to think. I feel this 'how to think' is crucial.
I wish to point out that I am not a scientist and know
nothing about the structure of the human brain.
Regarding 'smoke signals' I think it is something cheap
and friendly to the environment! Sometimes I feel I should
be carrying a cigarette lighter instead of my 8 year old mobile
phone (joke):)

"9. The ancient Indian astronomers had tabulated the movement and
positions of the sun, planets and the stars in space, long before Isaac
Newton came up with the theory of gravity after the apple had fallen on
his head"
... I am in doubt.
The tabulation of the movement of the Sun (and stars) has been found at
the base of various civilisation - be it Chinese, Romans, Egyptians,
Aztecs, Mayans, African Tribes, .......
However, Isaac Newton did not tabulate these movements but in fact he
linked them to a rule - the rule of gravitation (in the same way these
civilisations did not find the rules of these motions but rather only
tabulated them).
I cannot believe that even in the 21st Century people still believe
that Newton discovered the theory of Gravity because of the apple fell
on this head whilst sleeping. Well if it is true then the apple lead
to:
F=-GM1M2/(R^2)
... Impressive.
I do not believe that the end of these civilisations were due to the
fact that they could not evolve beyond it. The hardwork to reach
these stages were forgotten. Pride and arrogance took over:
"We are the best"
"No one is better than us"
This bear similar resemblance with the post of Nitai but what I fear
the most is how the pride of India changed to the pride of Hindus
All of us has to be proud of our country somehow but still respect
others opinion. We are Mauritians and not Indians. We should be proud
that (as Lou said):
One of the few countries that gained independence without violence is
Mauritius.
"9. The ancient Indian astronomers had tabulated the movement and

:-) People like to think it that this is how it happened. It is a nice
story!
...
> This bear similar resemblance with the post of Nitai but what I fear
> the most is how the pride of India changed to the pride of Hindus
I would not worry about it. The change of tone at the end gave more than
a hint that Nitai's post was defensive ... perhaps he feels that people
of indian origin are not being respected enough (in Mauritius) and
therefore the past achievements of India need reminding. It may well be
a good reminder for the naive and, dare I say, the ignorant. For
anybody with an interest in civilisations, the rich tapestry of India's
culture, present and past history are simply facts. It does not (and
should not) need to be compared against any other culture. By doing so,
this is where the argument about 'my culture is better than yours' starts.
By the way, mauritians would do well to realise that they are *not*
indian, chinese, african or european. 'Honorary membership' is about all
one can claim. None of these countries would allow you unrestricted
access to come and leave as you please.

Weiler's Law:
Nothing is impossible to a person who doesn't have to do the work.
What is the cause of this division in Mauritius
and the world? What is its source? We discussed
this in another thread. The source is the lack
of understanding of the thinking processes. It
is perpetually caught in the illusory divisions
created by labels like Hindu, Chinese, Muslim
etc etc. leading to insecurity, all kinds of injustices
and eventually violence.
I think that you meant the 6th century BC. Funnily enough Pythagoras
lived some time
between 569 and 475 BC. Anyway, this theorem is believed to date 4000
years BC and from Egypt.
