Counting the Many Ways Sugar Harms Your Health

In addition to throwing off the body's homeostasis, excess sugar may
result in a number of other significant consequences. The following is
a listing of some of sugar's metabolic consequences from a variety of
medical journals and other scientific publications.

Sugar can suppress your immune system and impair your defenses
against infectious disease.1,2

Sugar upsets the mineral relationships in your body: causes
chromium and copper deficiencies and interferes with absorption of

In India,sugar is made in an artisanal way.They crush the cane witth a
press,and then cook it on the streets in a container.That's what I saw
anyway.Such sugar is better,as it doesn't contain animal charcoal

There's nothing wrong in eating sweet fruits like apples,mangoes etc,as
the sugar is natural.
I don't know why you mention wheat crops...with which flour is
made(whole wheat flour is best)
But the sugar cane fields can be replaced with fruit trees of various
specimens,potatoes,veg and pastures for the cows,who will produce
milk:no need to import!(Rs.1,000,000,000. / yr!)Instead,luxury housing
for foreigners are being built!
Yes, when I am old I will need an ambulance. Or I may
need one at any time because the human body is so complex
and it is impossible to know when it will strike some kind of
imbalance, disharmony.
Personally I forget about the lobbies and products
- Coca Cola, Macdonald etc etc. What is important is whether
in my blood stream there is an abnormal level of glucose which
in the long term will lead to all kinds of complications and a
painful premature death.
Sugar is sugar. It does not matter how it is made or
prepared or whether it comes from fruit etc. If one's body is
unable to process it efficiently one is in diabolical trouble and
only a good doctor can help. If a diabetic eats three large, ripe
juicy mangoes in one go I am almost sure that this person
will lose consciousness and end up in hospital!
As I pointed out I am not a nutritionist but I am told
that sugar gets into the blood stream very fast, This is why
when a person has collapsed due to low sugar level in the
bloodstream he/she is given a lolly or a sugary drink to recover.
Diabetics have to monitor the glucose level in their blood
several times a day to avoid this. They eat very little sugar
and go for food which is digested slowly, thereby releasing
sugar in the blood at a slow rate and therefore remains within
healthy range.
Wheat is mostly carbohydrate. I was referring to refined
flour (white flour) which is widely used in Mauritius for pourris,
faratahs, breads etc. I do not think that what Faisal says is totally
true. It is when the white flour is digested that it is turned into
sugar. I completely agree with you that whole wheat flour is
best because it is digested slowly. Even if one is not a diabetic
it is, in my opinion, better to choose foods which are digested
slowly. However, a lot of people do not like wholemeal bread
because it is brown inside.
Like you I am also somewhat concerned about selling
our arable land for the building of luxury houses, IRS etc. Crops
cannot grow on concrete!
