Folk Art Collection. Mabel Van Alstyne (Mrs. Fred Dana Marsh) and her
late sister, Eleanor, assembled the collection over the course of the

as a document of the attitudes and ideas of 19th century America.
I am pleased to express my deep gratitude to Mrs. Mabel Van Alystne
Marsh for making this outstanding collection of American Folk Art
available to the Smithsonian Institution. Here, for the first time, it
