Allright... I got a bunch of crappy paintings I wanna unload for at least
the cost of materials (bout $1.75 a pop for paper and paint).

Where the hell do I list the stuff? I really don't want to put them in any
of the "art" catagories, cause... they suck. Well, I think they suck. :)
A friend of mine like one or two of em... heh... so! I was thinkin of a
heading like "Bad, ugly, crappy watercolor art." Or something along those
lines... but where?

...anyone got any ideas?

Try:

COLLECTIBLES>WEIRD STUFF>SLIGHTLY BIZARRE
or >TOTALLY BIZARRE depending on how the stuff looks.

There's also: ART>AMATEUR ART which is probably more appropriate.

I doubt any one would buy them if they're as crappy as you make them
sound. But who knows? Maybe the stuff is great and you just don't
know it!

Or, if you're not fainthearted, post an anonymous link in this group, then
watch the critiques.

You don't paint vampires, do you ?!?

I note that one of the people bidding on your paintings has bid on two
at your "full" price, and two at your "bad" art price. I think that
could be a great marketing technique, to put the ones that you are less
happy about online cheaper (and even in the weird cat.).

One thing though, the couple I looked at in the "bad" zone, did not seem
to have the size of them listed. You should do a 'add to my item's
description' thing to give more info.

Well, Mark, I have to agree with your girlfriend. I'm not
much for abstract art, but I really like some of yours.
Think I'll toddle off and bid on them while you still
think they're ugly and list them for $1.50. :-)

Ya know... I thought about that right after I listed some of them in one of
the weird catagories. My girlfriend agrees with you on this one... heh.

I might have to scatter them around a bit at first... I dunno. I'm still so
new at this eBay auction thingy, that I havn't settled into any kind of
pattern yet. But that's sound advice.

Didn't notice you posting any links, Mark. But I snooped out your
auctions too. Really not all that hard to do. I liked a couple of them
too, specifically "Branch" & "Three Points". However if I have
any money to spend on art, I have to buy from one of my
granddaughters. : )

I'd have to thow my two cents in as well, although I must admit I liked
the stuff you were offering with higher minimums better, the paintings
that you were offering as ugly are still nicer than 90% of what you see
on eBay. Just a question, are the "Ugly" ones signed and dated too?

Just one other question, I noticed that one of the people who bid on one
of your "ugly" paintings bid a few minutes later on two of your regular
paintings as well. Was this an unintended benefit, or a part of your
marketing plan from the start?

Heh... thanks, and yes, they are signed and dated.

I can't say it was exactly a part of the "plan", but the thought had
certainly crossed my mind. As far as marketing plans go, I'm kinda just
playing it by ear and seeing what works. I wanted to see what happened if I
set some prices lower, but I couldn't bring myself to sell the paintings I
like for anything less than the absolute minimum I'd accept. I'm kinda in
the middle of that experiment as we speak... :)
