I filed a claim (about $100) against a seller. eBay eventually ruled in
my favor, and gave me until October 4 (today), to generate a tracking
number showing that I'd returned the item for refund.

However, I returned from a business trip only yesterday, Sunday. I
planned to ship the item today, but just received a CLOSED CASE email
from eBay, because I did not provide the tracking number in time.

??

Looks like you didn't provide the tracking number in time.

Full details, or it didn't happen.

How did you pay? If you did it the "right way" by credit card you can just
do a chargeback if necessary. If you did pay with CC "I" would save this as
a last resort though. I would first try checking on the claim, see if they
will still re open it. Or e-mail the seller and tell them you are returning
the item and would like a refund. If they both refuse, the bank who issued
the card will just take the money back. Now Paypal, if you used them may not
like this, and may I have heard, cancel your account.

What's "in time" ??? eBay said that the item had to be shipped by today
- then closed the case this morning.

As for details -
Seller on east coast, buyer in CA
A technology item was listed as "new", but "no returns"
Purchased on 9 Sep
Received on 21 Sep
Item was DOA
Seller rejected my request for replacement/refund
Opened case on 24 Sep
Decision in my favor about 29 Sep
(I was on travel 29 Sep-3 Oct)
eBay required shipping by 4 Oct
Case was closed the morning of 4 Oct

Payment was via PayPal, direct from bank account

"about" 29 Sep. Why are you fudging that date?
It's either 29 Sep, or not.

I'm "on travel" right now, myself. I have two boxes of books
in the trunk of the car, just in case they sold - so I could mail
them.

If it wasn't important enough to take care of while "on travel",
or before, why is it so important now?

BY Oct 4th means "before". It didn't say NLT.

Yes, do a chargeback. But send the item back.

Try blacksmithing, hang gliding, or decoupage instead.

There's a big sale on blacksmithing supplies right now
on wagglepoop. No free shipping on those Anvils though.

What part of "by" did you have trouble understanding?

Apparently the $100 problem was not that big enough of
a problem for the OP de tres initiales'.

"Oh the message says Oct 4th. I'll put it off till the
last possible moment. The hundred bucks is not that
big of a deal."

I hope he never gets the money back. And that the "alleged" defective
sex toy sets his house, or him, on fire.

We have had very few shipping problems with UPS.

But they did manage to break an anvil we were shipping.
