I can't seem to get to the announcements board anymore. The link on
eBay's site map takes you to a redirect page, which it's done for a
while. However, for the past couple of days I don't get redirected to
the announcements board, it hangs, and I eventually get an error message
that states the document contains no data.

Does anyone know another way to get to the announcement board, or am I
the only one this is happening to?

***More Information About Store Referral Credits***
Date: 09/24/03 Time: 03:05:15 PM PDT

Starting in October, we will pilot the ability for eBay Store sellers to
earn Store Referral Credits on their accounts when they promote their Store
outside of eBay and generate sales!

Store Sellers, here's how it works:

Promote your Store or Store Inventory items outside of eBay through other
web sites, emails to your buyers, keyword ads, or off-line promotions. For
example, include a promotional message ("See more great items at my eBay
Store!") and your Store's URL in email communications or printed materials.
A buyer sees the promotion and goes directly into your eBay Store or to one
of your Store Inventory items.
The buyer purchases one of your Store Inventory format items.
On your monthly invoice, you will be charged the regular Final Value Fee,
but will also receive a Store Referral Credit. Like the Final Value Fee, the
Store Referral Credit is based on the final value of the item. The Store
Referral Credit is equal to 50% of your Final Value Fee of the item.
All Store Sellers are automatically eligible for Store Referral Credits. For
a step-by-step guide on how to participate, please click here.

If you have further questions on the Store Referral Credit or want specific
information on how it's calculated, check out the Store Referral Credit
Frequently Asked Questions.

eBay

***Educational Pop-Ups for Non-Paying Buyers***
Date: 09/22/03 Time: 02:47:05 PM PDT

Beginning today, eBay buyers who have received a Non-paying Buyer (NPB)
alert from eBay will see an educational pop-up window when they sign in. The
new NPB Alert Pop Up is an educational reminder to buyers that they need to
complete the transaction and pay for the item.

Our data shows that in many cases when an NPB alert is filed, the buyer and
seller are able to work out the issue and complete the transaction
successfully. To make this process even more effective, in addition to the
email that eBay currently sends on behalf of the seller, the new pop-up
alert will be shown to buyers that log in within seven days of receiving the
NPB alert. The pop-up will identify the item that needs payment and provide
friendly guidance on how to pay or contact the seller.

We would like to remind sellers of a few simple steps they can take to
decrease the likelihood of encountering a Non-paying Buyer:

Make it easy to pay by offering PayPal and eBay checkout.
Provide details on shipping and handling information in the shipping details
or item description.
Make it easy for the buyer to contact you by including accurate and
up-to-date contact information.
Avoid private auctions.
Use the Non-paying Buyer reporting system which you can access via our Help
page.
The key to successful transactions on eBay is communication between buyers
and sellers. We hope that this new feature helps both buyers and sellers
complete their transactions successfully.

eBay

***Online Safety: Protect Yourself From Fraudulent (Spoof) Email***
Date: 09/22/03 Time: 08:55:37 AM PDT

eBay is working hard to help keep your account safe from hacking and
unauthorized intrusions.

Some Community members have received deceptive emails claiming to come from
eBay, PayPal, or other popular websites. The people who send these emails,
also known as "spoof" or "phishing" emails, hope that unsuspecting
recipients will reply or click on a link contained in the email and then
provide sensitive personal information (e.g., eBay passwords, social
security numbers, or credit card numbers).

We strongly encourage you to be cautious when responding to any email
request for sensitive personal information.

Remember, just because an email looks like it's from eBay, doesn't mean it
really is. An eBay address in the "From" line of an email (From:
sup...@ebay.com, From: bil...@ebay.com, From: eBay Account Maintenance)
does not guarantee that the email is from eBay.

You can also take a few simple steps to protect your account and prevent
senders of deceptive emails from doing harm:

Be sure you are on an eBay page before signing in-- check the web address.
Always use a secure server when submitting credit card numbers over the
Internet.
Do not send sensitive personal information via email.
Use the eBay site to update account information.
Forward suspicious email to sp...@ebay.com.
Detailed information about each of the above topics can be found at the
Spoof Education Page.

Educate Yourself
eBay's Help system provides detailed information about spoof emails,
identity theft, and what to do if your eBay account has been compromised.
Learn more at eBay's Security Center.

Your vigilance helps us ensure that eBay remains a safe and vibrant online
marketplace.

Regards,
eBay

***2 Day Penny Gallery***
Date: 09/21/03 Time: 10:00:58 PM PDT

As a special offer to our sellers, we will be holding a two-day Penny
Gallery on the U.S. site (www.ebay.com) from Monday, Sept 22nd, 2003 between
00:00:01 PDT (12:00 AM plus one second) and 23:59:59 PDT Tuesday, Sept 23rd,
2003 (11:59 PM plus 59 seconds). Listings created prior to September 22nd,
2003 and scheduled to start during the promotional period (September 22-23,
2003) will be eligible for the promotional rate.

During the 2 Day Penny Gallery promotion:

for eBay Motors vehicles, International, Live Auction, Professional Services
and Store Inventory listings.

All other fees (including Insertion Fees, Final Value Fees and all other
optional listing upgrade fees, such as Buy It Now, Highlight, Gallery
Featured, Featured Plus!, Listing Designer, Gift Services, Bold, Reserve,
extended duration insertion fees, etc.) will still be charged. The
promotional rate does not apply to listings with a start date prior to Sept
22nd, 2003, including those listings revised during the promotional period.
The promotional rate also does not apply to listings created during the
promotional period, Sept 22-23, 2003 but scheduled to start after Sept 23rd,
2003. If you choose to List in 2 Categories, the standard insertion and
listing upgrade fees for listing in the second category will still apply.

We hope you enjoy Penny Gallery Days!

eBay

***Item Specifics Feature Available in Books & Magazines***
Date: 09/19/03 Time: 07:00:02 PM PDT

We are pleased to announce that the new Item Specifics feature is now
available in the Books & Magazines categories. This feature is also
available in the Books, Manuscripts category within Antiques, and the
Technology Books category within Computers & Office. Item Specifics is an
eBay feature that allows sellers to provide additional item details during
the selling process. Buyers can then search using these item details, in
addition to regular Title search and Description search, thus finding these
items more quickly and easily.

Item Specifics has previously been available in the Tickets, Travel, Real
Estate, Art, Wristwatches, Clothing, Shoes & Accessories, Movies, Music, and
Video Games categories. Now Book and Magazine sellers will be able to
distinguish their offerings by such details as Binding, Publication Year and
Subject. Sellers can choose whether or not to include Item Specifics in
their listing, and buyers can choose whether or not to search for these
details. However, we believe the feature provides significant value to both
buyers and sellers.

For more information about Item Specifics, please refer to our FAQs:

Item Specifics FAQ

Item Specifics Overview

Item Specifics Product Finder

Item Specifics View Item Page Example

We believe Item Specifics will make finding items easier and help increase
sales in the categories where the feature is enabled.

eBay

***Hurricane Isabel***
Date: 09/19/03 Time: 09:55:10 AM PDT

Large areas of the East coast have been dramatically impacted by Hurricane
Isabel, which hit the coast yesterday. Many people have been evacuated from
their homes due to the storm and subsequent flooding, and power is not
available in some areas. The ability for eBay members in these areas to
communicate, ship items, send payments and perform other trading-related
activities is severely limited.

eBay encourages members in the Community who may have trading partners in
this region to use patience for the next several days, and we send our best
wishes to those in our Community who are being affected.

Regards,
eBay

***Checkout Email Enhancements***
Date: 09/19/03 Time: 08:04:18 AM PDT

In a few weeks, we will be introducing several enhancements to our various
Checkout emails, which include our Send Invoice, Request Total, and Checkout
Complete emails. The upcoming feature enhancements will include the
following:

New HTML support for emails, giving Checkout emails a fresh new look! (Note:
eBay will continue to support text emails as well).
Ability for buyers to reply back to the seller directly when using the Reply
To: button.
Improved content and clearer guidance on what to do next within the emails.
Ability to provide custom messages within the emails.
You can preview samples of the enhanced emails below:

Send Invoice

Request Total

Regards,
eBay

***PayPal Automatic Logo Insertion Changes***
Date: 09/19/03 Time: 04:15:02 PM PDT

In a few weeks, PayPal will be making several enhancements to their
Automatic Logo Insertion feature (ALI). When turned on, ALI currently makes
it easy for buyers to pay by inserting the yellow PayPal "Pay Now" buttons
into a seller's listings.

In a few weeks, we will make the following changes to listings where the
seller ALI preference is turned on:

-Your items will be included in PayPal-filtered searches.
This gives your items more exposure!

-PayPal will automatically be included as an accepted Payment Method on all
of your eBay listings, replacing the yellow Pay Now button.
For open listings, PayPal will now be included in the Payment Methods
Accepted section. For closed listings, a gray Pay Now button will appear at
the top of your listings. This is to make it easier for buyers to always
know exactly how to pay you through PayPal and will replace the yellow
PayPal button and text that are currently inserted into the item description
of your eBay listings.

For an example of what your preferences will look like on the Sell Your Item
form, please click here.

Note: This change does NOT turn on eBay's Checkout process. Your Checkout
preferences will remain the same.

These changes will affect all ALI listings on www.ebay.com. If you do not
wish to have PayPal automatically inserted into your listings, you must
update your PayPal preferences by September 25th. You can do so by clicking
the Auctions link from PayPal's Profile tab. Sellers with ALI selected and
who list items through eBay's bulk listing tools, such as Turbo Lister or
Selling Manager, Preferred Solution Providers, or other auction management
service providers, must select PayPal as an accepted payment method through
their listing service or turn off ALI within their PayPal account in order
to submit their listings.

Regards,
eBay

I've tried clearing cache, restarting my computer, I can get to the
bottom URL on your list, the newsletter, but I can't get to either the
marketing announcements board or the system status board.

This is very strange.

It won't work for me, but thanks for posting what was there. Nothing
important, but you never know. They post the important stuff there
among the drivel, and there's no real way I know of to keep track of it
but to read it periodically.

Now all I have to do is figure out why everyone else can access it, but
I can't.

This is a technical problem with DNS services. I'm not sure exactly how it
works, but I think the 'www2' alias is supposed to redirect you to a
nonstandard port using an mx record.

Here are some web pages I found:

http://www.dyndns.org/support/kb/portredirect.html

http://www.franz.com/support/documentation/6.0/doc/dns.htm

If anyone understands this well enough off the top of his head, please
suggest a solution.

An MX record is seperate from a A record. A MX record is used only for
mail. It could be the ww2 link redirects to a different port, in which
case a firewall could be the culprit, however most firewalls are
configured in such that if you make a request out, it will allow
traffic back of the same method (i.e. by default, a firewall will
block say port 200, however if you attempt a outbound connection from
port 200, it will allow a connection back in on port 200.

Don't feel bad, it apparently isn't hitting anyone but me. It is
related to the browser, I tried looking using IE and I can see it just
fine. I don't know what weirdness is going on with my system that would
have this effect only on my computer, and not on anyone else's.

It's not like it stopped working when I installed 7.1, it worked just
fine for a fair while after that. There have been a number of updates
of Windows XP Professional recently in the past several weeks, I wonder
if that could be the culprit.
