I've been trying to find some kind of mail order store that sells
some of the things that go into drawing manga (i.e. tone screen, paper,
different types of ink, etc.). Does anyone know of any (either online or
catalog)?
Thanks,

I drew an entire book (CATHEDRAL CHILD, just released) on the Japanese
comic paper. Not impressed with the paper quality. Try getting
kid-finish bristol (as opposed to plate finsih which has a slightly
shiny surafce--kid finish erases better) instead. You can buy it in
books or in sheets at any decent-sized art supply.
Ink is ink. Many Japaense products you'll find in the U.S. under
different names, Pentel being one of the biggest. Sakura is also very
easy to find here, and it's a Japanese brand, as is Millenium.
I have bought an used Japanese products, and I can promise you there is
-zero- difference in performance among similar products.
As for zip, it's time to make pals with someone in Japan. Very little if
any zip is still made here in the U.S., and most stores that still have
it are getting rid of it. Most toning here is done with a computer, and
this is becoming more common in Japan, too.
With pens, you want ones with permanent ink. Dip pens and brushes are
completely a metter of personal taste. Some artists swear by brushes,
some by dip pens, some by finepoint-type pens. What you have to do is
find what works best for you.
