Opposite corners?
It depends on who you ask. A medieval Bogomil text gives this
description:
from the Interrogatio Iohannis
"And I asked of the Lord: When Satan fell, in what place dwelt he? And
he answered me: My Father changed his appearance because of his pride,
and the light was taken from him, and his face became like unto heated
iron, and his face became wholly like that of a man: and he drew with
his tail the third part of the angels of God, and was cast out from
the seat of God and from the stewardship of the heavens. And Satan
came down into this firmament, and he could find (make) no rest for
himself nor for them that were with him. And he asked the Father
saying: Have patience with me and I will pay thee all. And the Father
had mercy on him and gave him rest and them that were with him, as
much as they would even unto seven days.
And so sat he in the firmament and commanded the angel that was over
the air and him that was over the waters, and they raised the earth up
and it appeared dry: and he took the crown of the angel that was over
the waters, and of the half thereof he made the light of the moon and
of the half the light of the stars: and of the precious stones he made
all the hosts of the stars.
And thereafter he made the angels his ministers according to the order
of the form of the Most High, and by the commandment of the invisible
Father he made thunder, rain, hail, and snow.
And he sent forth angels to be ministers over them. And he commanded
the earth to bring forth every beast for food (fatling), and every
creeping thing, and trees and herbs: and he commanded the sea to bring
forth fishes, and the fowls of the heaven.
And he devised furthermore and made man in his likeness, and commanded
the (or an) angel of the third heaven to enter into the body of clay.
And he took thereof and made another body in the form of a woman, and
commanded the (or an) angel of the second heaven to enter into the
body of the woman. But the angel lamented when they beheld a mortal
shape upon them and that they were unlike in shape. And he commanded
them to do the deed of the flesh in the bodies of clay, and they knew
not how to commit sin.
Then did the contriver of evil devise in his mind to make paradise,
and he brought the man and woman into it. And he Commanded to bring a
reed, and the devil planted it in the midst of paradise, and so did
the wicked devil hide his device that they knew not his deceit. And he
came in and spake unto them, saying: Of every fruit which is in
paradise eat ye, but of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil
eat not. Notwithstanding, the devil entered into a wicked serpent and
seduced the angel that was in the form of the woman, and he wrought
his lust with Eve in the Song of the serpent. And therefore are they
called sons of the devil and sons of the serpent that do the lust of
the devil their father, even unto the end of this world. And again the
devil poured out upon the angel that was in Adam the poison of his
lust, and it begetteth the sons of the serpent and the sons of the
devil even unto the end of this world."
In the first place - the idea of duality or dichotomy is/has been corrupted
by the misapplication of analytics.
Yin and Yang is a better model and represent one thing in a constant state
of flux and within and without all things - viz., yin becomes yang and vice
versa.
So in terms of the descent on the Tree of Life (model) the force, idea &c
becomes engulfed upon the descent from what is represented by one Shephiroth
into what is represented by the next - yang becomes yin, yin becomes yang.
The inspiration becomes an idea and the idea is eventually manifested on the
physical plane - e.g., a drawing, painting, blue print, story, dancing,
singing, this post.
Since we are imperfect, yet strive towards perfection, it is impossible for
us to accurately depict what we visualize, as an idea brought forth by an
inspiration, and how we would like to express this to share this with
others, so in a sense we are all impressionists.
Yin and Yang are representative of passive and aggressive. We bring down
this inspiration into idea. The idea is a form of existence but the act of
bringing it down into another form is an aggressive act which requires a
passive object (-e.g., clay forms of people, the followers of dictators, the
canvas of the artist). Yang is the aggressive force, yin is the passive
object and this continues until the inspiration takes form on the material
plane, hence yin becomes yang, yang becomes yin, &c, as in the beginning as
in the end. S yin and yang are not separate things but are actually one
thing which changes in quantity, you might say the quality, is the only
constant, hence it is one.
In the second place - you shall note above that the process is only
corruptible as it becomes more material. Above a particular level of
consciousness, the actual process is neutral (from whence the idea do what
thou willst . . .) for example we all get angry and want to kill someone,
hurt them; but this soon passes unless we are encouraged to focus upon such
target. All of such things may only take effect on the physical plane and
are thought of on planes of consciousness incident thereto and thus as with
all ideas require passive elements to take effect on the physical plane
(-e.g., before they may harm another) yet still, they may be directed to
matter which does no harm such as writing a mystery novel, film noir &c.
which again might never be published or distributed.
So it is at these lower levels of consciousness where all of these ideas
of demons and evil creatures come into being -e.g., a person that doesn't
want to share expression but merely wants to make a quick buck, might get
that but no more. The audience soon perceives there is no heart or
integrity; but if such person tries to earnestly share his ideas with the
reasonable expectation of some return the persons ability to succeed will
improve. The same with would be dictators that think they know what's best
for everyone and mold their clay Golems as personal soldiers rather than
resorting to the more usual medium of canvas, paper, film, &c. where they
perhaps failed for the aforesaid reason.
Above a certain level of consciousness there is no need for such things as
revenge, fashioning the world into your way of doing things, as such wont,
results from conditions forced upon us from others on the physical plane.
These impositions limit and distract us from higher levels of consciousness,
and thus restrict and contract our total consciousness creating infinities
that spiral inward. We might become specialized in means of revenge, means
of suppression, spreading disinformation, &c. And most refer to this as
evil. I think of it as "fucked up" and the result of others rendering
themselves overly passive to such things and thus "going with the flow". The
aggressive act of resistance would extinguish such things and through
education the lower forms of 'inspiration' could be directed to other
channels - e.g., I know what you're experiencing try this rather than 'this
is how our society works and this is what you will do or else' which is
again "fucked up".
So all of these allegories aside from what I've stated above, in terms of
Genesis, are inspired from below, from lower levels of consciousness than
those aspired to by the artist/creator
Above and below Tipareth
The thing I find frustrating is not so much seeing people resorting to the
occult as a going with the flow act but such people denouncing anything
having to do with Xtianity, as a sort of loyalty oath, because there are
Xtian writings that are inspired from above which these people may miss for
many years of their lives as they spiral inward. So stone me for being a
Liberal Jew because I'm not a Conservative that forces 'a solution' upon
such persons, I merely offer an alternative
I must be evil:)

Choice. Mankind has the ability to choose "right" and "wrong". God created
everything including Satan and sent Satan to mankind to provide choice to
us. It is up to us to chose our path...
IMHO, Satan is simply doing what God made Satan for -- to provide mankind
with choice. In my book, the "war between God and Satan" doesn't exist.
How could God, who created everything from nothing, ever be challenged by a
creation? All God would have to do is unmake Satan but that defeats God's
purpose -- providing the option for mankind to choose to follow and go to
God or not.
As such, why should anyone hate or fear Satan? Satan doesn't "take". Satan
offers options as prescribed by God. Those following those options now...
Those folks can get a tad carried away with the idea... <grin>
Mark Martin
Very interesting Mark. I've felt very similar to that for some time now,
with the exception of believing in Satan of course. I've felt that God
(whatever you wish to call God) does leave the choice up to us. The true
ramifications of our choice are not really known.
This falls right in line with my typical response to atheist folk who ask
why does God not reveal him/her/itself upon command. Perhaps God getting in
your face and proving his/her/it's existence without a shadow of a doubt is
simply not God's agenda. Who are we to make demands anyway?

In Gaul, not only every tribe, canton and subdivision of a canton, but
almost every family, is divided into rival factions.
...
The same principle holds good in intertribal politics; all the tribes
are grouped into two factions.

Everywhere in Gaul there are only two classes of men who are of any
account or consideration.

Greetings!
I am pleased to announce that Caduceus Books has sold the original oil
painting of Aleister Crowley by Leon Engers Kennedy to the National
Portrait Gallery in London. It was first reproduced in the Blue Equinox
1919 and has been much used since then, notably on John Symonds
biography, King of the Shadow Realm. This certainly does not mean that
the British government endorses Crowley or Thelema! I do get the
impression that the gallery has moved from presenting portraits of
Establishment role models to less judgementally charting people of
importance. Last October the BBC held a poll for the 100 greatest
Britons and Crowley appeared at number 73. I suspect the curators and
trustees of the gallery considered him to be well known, perhaps
culturally significant and certainly very colourful! Accordingly they
felt the National Portrait Gallery should have an image of him. The
Engers Kennedy picture was considered appropriate because it was
definitely painted from life - Crowley was down on his luck in 1917 and
the artist let him sleep on a sofa in his studio for a period of some
months. The National Portrait Gallery likes to know something of the
circumstances that gave rise to a picture and it was possible to direct
them to an article in the International written by Crowley under the
pseudonymn J. Turner called Art and Clairvoyance which mentions Engers
Kennedy as employing his clairvoyant vision when looking at the subject
and then recording those insights in paint. I imagine this was thought
rather unusual and outre, but perhaps an interesting curiosity to those
whose business is portraiture. In that article Crowley does state that,
regardless of the method used by the artist to perceive the sitter, the
resultant picture must stand in its own right. This I believe to be the
case with Engers Kennedy picture of Crowley. The collections manager,
who must be so very used to looking at portraits, made a point on more
than one occasion of stating that it was a striking picture. I think
that the Old Man would be rather pleased that he will be taking his
place in the National Portrait Gallery!
The portrait will be on show this autumn. As mentioned the National
Portrait Gallery does like to know someting of the artist and the
circumstances surrounding the painting of a picture that they hold. some
research was required and I would like to thank Mike H., Philip J., John
Lovett and Richard Kaczynski for their assistance.
Incidentally I am just about to issue and email list of secondhand

I wonder what the disposition of the Augustus Johns portrait is? IMO its a
better work than the Kennedy. Better portraiture and more realistic of
Crowley the man rather than Crowley the image.

>I wonder what the disposition of the Augustus Johns portrait is?
I do not know but I think I am right in saying that it was offered to
the National Portrait Gallery some years ago but was declined.
> IMO its a better work than the Kennedy.
I respect your opinion
> Better portraiture
Conventionally I would agree. The psychically perceived lines of force
which Engers Kennedy portrays certainly makes his work more unusual.
> and more realistic of Crowley the man rather than Crowley the image.
I think you are right about that. The Engers Kennedy shows Crowley as he
wanted to be seen, the Master Therion, at his height of his powers. It
is an icon which he wished to project into the world. I would suggest it
has an historical and iconographic importance which other images of
Crowley do not.
My best wishes
