Yesterday I was supposed to be cut off because I will not pay a bill
that is unfair. I was clear - if you are fair - I will pay you. If
you are not then you can go to hell and I don't give a shit about my
credit rating and you can cut me off unpaid and find some other sap to
rip off.
Yesterday I was thinking about dongles and prepay internet but I
cannot even rely on BT to cut me off when it says it will.
Last month they gave me a cut off date too...
It's disturbing. Lasy month it was all very mechanistic. And I had a
phone call from a mechano woman. I know the real woman was in there
somewhere but the job had really destroyed her... you know?
I told them my router was hacked. Some joker renamed it 'I've got ya
shirt'. Very funny. But they advertise Broadband total and you think
you can dl what you want, when actually there is a £1 charge for every
gig you overuse (10g limit). My own downloading along with the
hackers came to over 600 squid. I signed up for 25 quid a month not
*that* and until they change the UK law so that debters can go to jail
for non payment of debt - they can go and screw themselves as far as
I'm concerned.
It was nice to be off the bad debiters list for a while... but Pay
BT? Pay a rip off merchant with tons off hidden charges to boot?

Isn't AOL Free these days? dial up and you would have use google to read
alt.magick but .... i would do much the same thing, in fact i did, with
a phone bill.
But then i just got a different, non phone company ISP.
If they are merely going to cut off your high speed internet connection
you can easily get a new one, if they are going to cut off your phone,
as they threatened to do to me, you might want to get more militant with
them.
I was getting billed for "roadside assistance" and a cell phone. At the
time i had no cell phone and i still don't drive. There was even a
small monthly charge for some long distance phone service i had never
heard of.
With late fees and interest this built up into a hefty amount. no where
near the 600 "Quid" (is a Quid a Pound?) you mention but several hundred
American dollars and then ongoing fees.
I finally had to get a letter from a Law firm to make them examine the
records in such a way as to prove i did not sign up for the services
they were billing me for.

The problem I have with landline is that there are no other landline
providers here other than BT, and that also cuts down the companies I
can get broadband from.

I'm just going to get the pay as you go version - I spend too much
time online anyways.

When I looked at my bill they are charging me for not ringing out
enough. wtf? As well as charging vat and messaging and all sorts of
shit.

A quid is a pound. You pay 25 quid a month and if you go over 10 gig
then every extra gig is an extra quid. I'm not MRS Film Factory
Pirate Bay extrodinaire selling cheap copies to the worthies, but
apparently I've used hundreds of gig downloading and they are ignoring
my 'heads up' letter I wrote immediately when I found I wasn't the
only one using the service. Some stupid BT FON security weakness.

Surely you set your routers password to something hard to
hack, upper case, lower case, a number, and a punctiation mark.
"I'm going 2 set a password" is sufficient as a secure pass
phrase that meets the above criteria, but better to make up
your own.
Then you secure by encryption the wireless side.
Then sign up with a pay monthly ISP, that cuts you off
unless you buy more useage on line, or wait until the
start of the next month.
I suspect the 600 quid download was probably via an
unsecured, that is an open, wireless connection.
Plenty of dipstick's with open wireless connections
round here, which is why I disabled wireless, and ran
CAT5 wired connections.
I can turn on wireless again if it is ever needed.
BT aren't in the business of protecting people who
don't protect themselves, someone has to pay for
the bandwidth used, and BT is far removed from
being a charity..
Some fools who write their PIN number on their
credit card because they are too stupid to remember
it, lose it, and then expect the bank to have an obligation
to pay the bill, because they didn't buy the goods.

The software when it came with the router would not accept a wap
password. Only a wep. After a while they updated the software and it
could be wap configured but before that it had it's trousers down
somewhat.

You cannot pay BT monthy. You have to sign up for an 18 month
contract or 12 month landline to even get connected.

It was the router, not the PC.
Everytime I tried to access the hub it would redirect me to the BT Fon
site, and it had changed it's name. 'I've got ya shirt'. ha ha.

I'm no angel. I've used other peoples connection on occaision. Maybe
this is karma or something? :-)
I'm not gonna worry over it, but I just can't figure why BT sends the
threatening letters and then doesn't actually cut me off when they say
they will (twice)!
It's just not a proper way to go on...

You have to use their own standards of "fairness", which are, as you
should know by now, up to them to choose, not you.
If they set you a cut-off date and then didn't abide by it, you can
chalk it up to bureaucratic incompetence.

Pay for the phone line. Sign up with one of the monthly
contract ISP's.
With mine I pay quarterly in advance by cheque, have
an included 5GB download allowance, unmetered
upload, and �1.46 per GB extra. There doesn't seem
to be any P2P throttling. If their standards of service
fall, I can terminate without penalties, and just ask for
MAC. No way can anybody run up 600 quid with
that setup.
